Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

I saw that ... Being lots of help I logged in and never logged out ... ;)
Hi Moose! May all be well with you and yours.
Howya! Glad you stopped by!
So in preparation for picking up the New(er) Little Red Riding Thing on the morrow, under the last rays of the sun as it settled into the western sea, or whatever, I give my towing car an oil change. And slapped a couple of handfuls of grease in the CV joint with the open boot.
I have a replacement axle assembly but it won’t get put in by tomorrow.
You know you can nurse those things along for quite some time as long as you’re willing to crawl under the car and slap molly grease into it..
Tomorrow before departure I will check the tire pressure on my towed-device and, of course, do a trailer light check. Then stop in NJ on the way for a tank of gas and save 30 cents (or more) on a gallon over NY prices.
If they come in support hose, please sign me up for two pairs.:)
‘morning...finally a cool night...57F at this moment. Having coffee outside looking at the moon in the pale pre dawn light and listening to bird songs.
In the early fifties my pediatrician had a similar coffee table sort of aquarium in the waiting room along with an in wall unit. Lots of colorful tropicals. Alleviated kids anxiety.
The county mental health facility has a digital aquarium on the wall.
It’s a little cooler here - 64 - but the forecast says that’s temporary.
LOL! Whataguy!
Well! Good news from Utah! Washington County does not require emissions tests, but vehicles must be 30 years old to qualify for Old Timer’s Plates. So I’ll get my BB SUV back if I can. Otherwise, it will be 1NVNTV (One Nevada Native).
One more thing to be pumped up about the move!
And now, I’m off to Walmart for some necessities.
I’m glad you have something to look forward to!
I’m off to check the boys’ room again. You’d think that, if each of the four occupants says, “I cleaned all my stuff up,” that all the stuff would be cleaned up. Not likely ...
Although NJ gas is about the cheapest in the country, and I will buy there whenever I can, it really gripes my cookies that I have to wait for some slow service person to get around to filling my tank or become a scofflaw.
Hey! You just posted a numerical palindrome!
'Tis the price you pay to pay less...
Now if you drove a Diesel car, you could pump your own...
Wait, you’re saying that’s the price I pay to pay the price I pay?
I’m getting dizzy.
I know what we need.
I was out. Went to Weight Watchers, went swimming, went to Walmart, picked Elen up at school.
I know, I know. Now it’s nap time.
At least it would be for me if I had just finished all that.
Hahahaha! Yes.
And now, I’m hungry.
