New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Well, now. I was out in the heat, but there are no pubs close by and none that have gardens, so I came in and plunked me down here, while I watch cooking shows. *sigh* My life is so mundane. :o|

Good tagline! Armor doesn’t help when facing a dragon; it just saves on basting.

"The Economy stops dead.
There is no one around to buy the stuff the Robots are churning out."

Nope. Some really rewarding and cushy jobs will be available for those who are building, operating, and rebuilding the fusion power-generating facilities.

And maybe we'll be tele-operating robots to do mining on the moon, or under the sea, or deep in unsafe mines. No different from operating "first-person-treasure-hunter" in some of our games.

And then there's the medical field. We'll have researchers figuring out all the snags and snarls in our genetic knitwork so that our children can be healthier than ever.

But even without that, if you have a skill your neighbors enjoy, they will employ you out of the rations and script they get just as they do now.

One job you know the robots won't take over is handing out the goodies at the local dole office window; "Did you b*llsh#t yesterday? Did you try to b*llsh#t today?"

Yes, but where I’m going the pub would be more like an ice cream parlor with the specialty of root beer floats.

But it IS a good idea! ;o]

LOL! Well, now...I can and will cogitate on that! Thanks!

And now, I’m taking my body to bed because it says it needs a breathing treatment, and from that point, I will read and have a quiet time before I turn the light out!

See you in the morning, Covenantor!

Did they hold the annual Sloth Race?

Or hasn’t last years concluded yet...

Good thing that Ice Cube, Iced Tea, L L Cool J, and Joe Cool for that matter, weren’t in attendance. They might have had a meltdown.

Yes, that is a Birman. Unfortunately, the owner isn’t much of a photographer, so the pictures didn’t give the best views of the fine kitteh.

Welp, I’ve checked the news online and have been “listening” to “New Tricks,” on PBS until the news comes on, at which time I will pay attention to the weather and then go take a shower.

Since I’m undecided about how I’m feeling, I will opt for staying home today, though I know the ramifications of THAT act. *sigh*

I think I’ll read up on scanning, then scan a bunch of photos and write to my grandson. I don’t think I wrote to him last week and that makes me feel bad. But I was struggling with the printer a week ago.

This is also the day to sort my pills, and I always like to get that over with. I wish I had a container big enough to hold enough for a month. :o[

I made sloppy joes yesterday, and the stinking right front burner will not work. That manager was full of himself, so I’m writing my fourth complaint about the darned thing. That’s so frustrating. I sat here 20 minutes, waiting for the pan to heat and when I didn’t smell anything, I went back in. The pan was barely warm. I think I’ve been cooking a little longer than the manager has, since I’m probably 30+ years older than he is.

At any rate, we shall see what happens this time.

I hope the day works out for you better than you expect! I’m going to get dressed in a few minutes and then go to Walmart and get some flowers for Asuncion, because tomorrow is the Feast of the Assumption. A person’s name day is like another birthday for traditional Hispanics.

Hopefully Tom the Son will respond to my text asking about his plans for the day. He and Elen both start school tomorrow, and he has to leave by 6:00 a.m., so it would be nice if he got home some time this afternoon and did laundry.

I hope it turns out better, as well! I’ve had a hard time breathing the last few days, so I’ll stay close to the nebulizer.

I would go to Walmart, but I can’t. It will have to wait, though I am once again running out of yogurt. I have plenty of cheese and crackers, but those aren’t as filling as yogurt!

It’s going to be another scorcher today and I’m always of mixed feelings about it. I love the heat but not the electric bills that are the prices to be paid for sleeping in a cool room.
