Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

This was my last flight:
Calais Chunnel Cab Company.
LoL...
A Calais Limo.
I absolutely love flying - especially my 2 hours in a USAF T-37.
It’s riding in the back of the plane I can’t stand.
Hmm. I was looking for a meme that would have some drunk waking up some place and wondering what they did and who they did it with.
The label would have been “America, November 9, 2016.”
I can’t beleive that’s not out there yet.
My clothes keep growing. It seems every time something hangs in the closet for two weeks, it grows a couple of inches. It reminds me of the M*A*S*H episode where the major from Bahston was pranked by Hawkeye and BJ: One week his clothes shrunk, the next week, they almost fell off. The week after that, the pants and shirt sleeves were too long. But no one is here to prank me...
Maybe it’s rhesus monkeys!
I remember that MASH episode. Very funny.
I went to Walmart. It started pouring just as we got home, and I got soaked bringing the stuff in. Then I had a nap with some cats. Next I’m going to make the Chickpea Dish.
Mash, wet, cats, chikpeas, walmart, dish.
Some very strange things rolling around in my brain.
Speaking of Hillary.
Another meme that needs to be out there. Theodin saying, “What can men do against such reckless hate?” and then a picture of her.
Do not put wet cats in a dish with chickpeas after you go to Walmart and then forget about them while you watch MASH.
Had to look that one up. De Haviland passenger plane from the eary thirties.
Polite of them to put long trousers to cover the wheel struts as not to offend dowagers from Victoria’s era.
Who is Theodin or is it The Odin????
Lord of the Rings Character.
I think
It found every air pocket available to it.
Nice views of Cambridgeshire though. :)
Yes. One of the Good Guys. I’m surprised you haven’t read the books, Covenantor. Massively excellent read, every single volume.
As a PS, I have an extra copy if you care to read it, and I will be glad to give it to you. Just say the word!
I wouldn’t put it past Tolkien to have drawn a partial cognate between “Théoden” and “The Odin.” There are some thought-provoking parallels, especially if one digs into the appendices.
But Théoden has both eyes.
I now note that the FedExPeople say that it has made it from DuBois, PA to Lewisberry, PA where they 'discovered' that the bar code label is unreadable and was replaced. That means they're going to route it to Boston or something like that.
As to Tom's computer being in Japan, I hear that FedEx in Japan uses giant moths.
Hopefully they aren't reporting a similar unreadable bar code 'cause that means all bets on delivery are off... ;-)
No kidding. Tom said it may come tomorrow. I told Tom I wasn’t planning to hang around home all day tomorrow, so he’d better have some plan for receiving it.
Still, a lot of characters in the saga seem to have Nordic roots, so I don’t put anything past the old Master Storyteller. He was excellent in spinning a yarn.
