New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

I keep AA’s, AAA’s 9 volt and C and D batteries on hand at all times because I hate running out at inopportune times. Which is usually when they die.

I’ve gotten almost paranoid when it comes to running out of things. And that’s just been in the last two years. I don’t know where that comes from, either!

It’s pretty hard for a lion to kill an elephant. They usually have to get the entire pride in on the act.

Due to the leakage problem with a certain Copper topped battery,it is worth changing all low discharge (eg Clocks) Annually.

I don’t use those copper top batteries. The life isn’t as long as the cost is.

I saw a documentary of lions hunting at night, and they went after elephants. Two or three would attack the head and others would attack the underside and legs, but it took a good ten lions to bring the animal down. Once the lions had chosen their prey, the rest of the herd watched or wandered away.

It’s was very interesting.

Five loads of wash on at the friendly Christian laundromat.

Much like modern American city dwellers. When a gang of feral thugs picks a victim the rest of the crowd pretends they see nothing so as not to get involved...

What happened to your washer? Or dryer?

I don’t know what’s wrong with me today, but I’m a little off, for some reason. I was going to go to the Rose Garden and get some Chinese food to go, and I just didn’t feel up to it.

It’s all in 3 dryers now. I just didn’t feel like doing 10 loads one at a time.

I will still probably have to do 2 at home from what they have on or didn’t get in the baskets but at least it won’t take all night.

Sorry you’re poorly! Just save the money u til you are hungry.

Maybe Monday will find me feeling well enough to get that Chinese food to eat with my wine. Of course, by Monday, I’ll be doing that laundry thing, too.

Some days, it just goes like that, and I get The Punies. It will pass, maybe by tomorrow.

I love the laundromat. It was all done in less time than it takes to wash and dry one load at home. I looked a little out of place in my official choir black skirt and white blouse, but maybe people thought I’d come from a shift as a waitress!

The AA batteries are here, and I’m back in the mouse business. Very tiresome having to use the touch-screen!

Morning! (Afternoon?)

I’m about to go upstairs and sing a cheerful Spanish Christian song to Bill the Son, who missed the part about cleaning up from his supper last night, as well as several other instructions.
