Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Always wanted to visit second cousins in Oz with a side trip to Kiwi land....
I saw what you did there...nicely played.
;>)
Excellent point. If Trump went on vacation and left Jake in charge, who would know?
I’ve been to Walmart, too. Now I’m going to feed the hummingbirds, wash some dishes, and then head off to Asuncion’s, today (not yesterday) being Viernes.
I had no part in the earlier repartee, so I did my humble best. Thank you, sir!
I’m clean semi-full and sleepy. What’s next for me, she asks? Oh, by all means, clean house, she answers. bah! So sensible, Precious!
I haven’t said a word.
Wait - did that monkey get over here?
Whoever supplies catnip to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue might suspect.
We’ve had pleasant weather all week. Temps in the upper 70s or low 80s. Almost non-existent humidity.
When that other shoe drops is’t going to be a dumhinger.
Humdinger.
Well, it was your monkey, once I let him loose...
I’m not responsible. Oh. Wait. Who SAID that? I’m not a liberal.
I’ll be glad to pay you for any damages, as long as you can accept yogurt as payment. I have tubs of the stuff, for some reason. ;o]
Tulta Munille!
The only thing that might possibly be at risk is my reputation and that’s so far gone you won’t have to worry.
Last night I went to make my monthly payment for our two Compassion children. I was notified that “my” boy is no longer in the program. Of course, to maintain anonymity, Compassion won’t say why.
IIRC, he was going to turn 15 next month so I’d have only had him for 3 more years anyway, but it was disappointing.
I hope he is alive, at least. He lives in San Salvador, El Salvador. From what I understand that’s a very dangerous place to be poor. Safety for him and his family was always his first prayer request.
Oh, Argee, that is so disheartening. Perhaps he is OK, but in an area that it may be dangerous to have contact with outsiders.
We can pray, for sure. It’s all up to God, anyway.
I just spent the last hour going through my jewelry (costume jewelry the lot of it, except for the jade and the few zircons.) I threw out a few odd pieces and broken chains, and sorted some other stuff as totally unsatisfactory or beyond the current fashions.
Yes, my jewelry case is much thinner now, thanks, and no thanks to the thief who took my beautiful bracelets. May she suffer nightmares every night for a year.
And I dusted the horizontal pieces of furniture that needed it. Some required almost superhuman effort to remove the accumulated layers since last they were dusted. My bad.
Ackshully, if we get the rewards in the next life that we didn’t get here, then you want this jewelry thief to spend the rest of her earthly days in bliss and happiness.
So the REAL fun can kick in for him/her after death.
Suddenly I hear Maude saying, “God’ll get you for that, Arthur.”
That’s very sad, ArGee. Maybe he has emigrated to the United States! 15 is a boy to us, but he’s a full-grown working man in the 3rd world.
If you can see the whites of their eyes, shoot them in the balls.

Apparently there was an electrical fire in the basement of the Criminal Court building across the street. There must have been 20 trucks out there when I went to lunch. Nobody injured (thankfully) but traffic probably won’t get sorted until Sunday.
Is it Horse drawn?
I haven’t tried today. I will need to jump it again since I ran down the battery with my attempts yesterday. If I can convince it to start I will mow first and ‘fix’ later. Which will include refilling the gas tank (when needed) with the thing running since if it starts I’m not shutting it off till I’m done. ;-)
Found a good deal on ebay last night that was good enough to justify the drive to pick it up. I asked the seller a couple of questions to clarify the lack of proper description and today I find that it is sold - not surprising considering the buy-it-now price was a really good deal if everything worked.
Oh well, back to contemplating engine replacement. There’s a unit for sale at a good price but it’s in Kentucky and I’m NOT driving there no matter how good the deal is!
