New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Good one. Vlad doesn’t like cheesecake. He’s strange.

For those of you who have a spare 16 mins and have a passing interest or questions about the reasons behind BRexit, this recording of modern philosopher Roger Scrunton explains everything.

But I will most likely share the cheesecake with the peeps, because I don’t dare keep it to myself! That is courting a fat danger!

I’m ready for church, and will wait a few more minutes before I head out. I usually like to sit there in the silence before people start coming in. However, I have my stash of two Hershey’s Dark Chocolate Kisses to get me through the service!

Today, I chose green. A few weeks ago I found a skirt that had been marked down from almost $20 to $5 so I bought it. And before that, I found a darker green V-neck pullover for $4. :o]) (Almost as good as a thrift store, only newer stuff!)

I have some green heels and a green purse that I found in a thrift store in Mesa (the one I found the silver necklace in) and figured I was good to go. I went to put on the heels and found that the rubber caps on them were gone. I will ask Greg is he can fix them, since he is partners in a shoe shop. So now, my shoes (beige) don’t match anything. (Oh the SHAME!)

I found some sterling silver teardrop earrings on Amazon for $2 (I think) free shipping. They came the other day and are a perfect match for the necklace. They were sent from China!

(Dang I feel bad about the shoes...)

Sweetie, thanks for the tip.

I’ve been carrying a knife since third grade before I even knew what a cheesecake was.

Never knew when you would come across a big fat juicy acorn begging to be carved into a pipe or when a game of mumblty-peg would erupt.

Boy Scout Motto: Be Prepared

Words to live by, at my age, I carry at least two in case I forget where the primary one is.

Perfect! And beige shoes go with everything ;-).

I plan to wear a tropical print dress (mostly blue), sparkly blue glass jewelry, and black lace flats.

A very good explanation, Moosie. Thanks!

It’s also considerable food for thought for anyone choosing to think on such weighty matters as consent of the governed, and of representative government at all.
