A man was shot by police in Falcon Heights on Wednesday evening. In a video posted on Facebook, the mans girlfriend says the police shot him for no apparent reason, no reason at all.
The girlfriend, Lavish Reynolds, started the video with the man slumped next to her, his white T-shirt soaked with blood on the left side. In the video, taken with her phone, she says they were pulled over at Larpenteur Avenue and Fry Street for a broken taillight.
Warning: Graphic video of the incident posted on Facebook
Who on earth vets these police?
I like that, they talk about a video but don’t show it.
Why would the victim want to pull a gun on the cop for an alleged broken tail light?
Reports said she was not in custody - just being questioned, which you would expect.
Since when does a passenger have to show ID over a traffic stop for a broken tail light?
“Why would the victim want to pull a gun on the cop for an alleged broken tail light?”
Maybe he’s got a body in the trunk, or drugs, or has an active warrant. Or just feels dissed by being pulled over.
Sorry bad reporting (producer should have included the video from the 1st story)...here is the link for the previous story with the video:

The cop probably got flustered when the word gun was mentioned irrespective of context. I bet he gave contradictory commands.
I haven’t read anything about pot. Where did you read that?
There are always more incidents in the summer simply because more people are out and about.
Okay. Whatever.
Yes, we are.
Thanks. That video is pretty much useless, too far away and they blurred out the subject.
If the dash/body cam(s) show what the police chief said they show, then it’s stupid kid/suicide by cop.
“Okay. Whatever.”
Sometimes it is that simple. Normal people don’t understand that mentality but it happens.
Yep, body cams were worn & should tell a better tale...it is still a bit sketchy, as the chief’s story has changed over the several interviews I have seen.
Cop was very wrong in this case. I don’t blame people for being real upset. There was no body in the trunk, no warrants, the victim had no record. Just DWB.
Jumping to conclusions alert.
The video is obviously reversed/mirror image. He (victim) is behind the steering wheel, driver. Girlfriend is the passenger.
Everything the girlfriend says is suspect. Everyone is taking her word as gospel. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t.
WE CAN’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED FROM THAT VIDEO. It was all over before the video started.
While it looks/sounds bad for the cop, it still could be a justified shooting, adhering to police procedures.
IF it was me, and I had a concealed weapon, I would not be reaching for anything but the sky. IF the officer asked for ID, I would refuse to get it. Hands up, don’t shoot.
The order of events and the timing of them, turned out to be life and death decisions.
possible scenario:
officer: License and registration
victim: reaching for his wallet while saying “I have a gun”
officer: pulls weapon and fires several rounds as per police training.
Passenger: pulls out phone and begins recording, recounting HER version of events.
Tragic, but justified shooting
possible scenario 2:
officer: License and registration
victim: I have a concealed handgun and a permit to carry it.
victim: Reaches for license and registration
officer: pulls weapon, shoots victim several times.
Passenger: pulls out phone and begins recording, recounting HER version of events.
Murder by cop
possible scenario 3:
officer: License and registration
victim: I have a concealed handgun and a permit to carry it.
officer: pulls weapon, place your hands on the steering wheel and DO NOT MOVE
victim: yes sir. victim complies
other officers: remove passengers from vehicle.
other officers: remove victim, restrain him, handcuff him, locate and remove firearm, unload firearm (if loaded).
officer: check wallet for ID and carry permit. check for wants and warrants. If none found, remove restraints, return his handgun, everyone goes home safe.
If only this had happened instead
Indeed the cop continues to say keep your hands up. She replies late in the video something to the effect that she is keeping her hands up where he can see them.
I think too many unqualified people are becoming police officers. It takes a certain badass attitude to be able to master a situation and intimidate a perp without filling him full of lead. Guys like this officer seem to be so scared from the outset that they are ready to start shooting from the get-go. These are the same guys who kill family dogs because "they approached them in a threatening manner". They simply are not police officer material.
