Democrats in the blogosphere and the news media, after breathing a sigh of relief at the non-indictment, are expressing consternation at what they see as extensive editorializing by James Comey in the Press Statement prior to reaching his conclusion of a non-referral for prosecution.
After they have had a chance to ponder over the extensive comments by Comey describing the recklessness of Clinton's actions, and the potential treasure trove of quote-worthy damnations against Clinton, they are wondering if it was appropriate for him to indulge in editorializing her actions if he was not going to recommend prosecutorial actions.
See for example Ruth Marcus's (WP Editorial Board) article on this issue today:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/why-comeys-remarks-on-the-clinton-email-case-were-extraordinary/2016/07/05/b964813c-42e0-11e6-8856-f26de2537a9d_story.html
There is a creeping recognition that this might be a pyrrhic victory for Clinton, and the damage done by Comey's comments may be long-lasting.
Really ! Beyond redemption . Kook-ade addict for sure !
Since when is declining to press charges, exonerating?
The Clintons have extensive files on everyone who matters in DC. This smacks of blackmail, as in the Justice Roberts ruling on Obamacare. If Comey has something to hide, the Clintons make it their business to find out what it was. Bill Clinton met with Lynch on the plane to tell her about the deal they had with Comey, & she came out and said she’d abide by the FBI recommendation. They don’t call him “Slick” for nothing!
Comey is just trying to stay out of hell for lying. She owns him now. He will never sleep a full night for the rest of his probably brief life.
Comey didn’t look happy as he was leaving the podium. I’m starting to think that the Clintones and Bonzo made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. He lied right out of the box when he said nobody knew anything about what he was going to say. If that was true, what the hell were Obonzo and Clintone doing honeymooning on Con Air One on their way to N.C.? Hmmmmmm?
Multiple things: FBI regularly has to conduct this type of investigation (though hardly anything compares to the vastness of Hillary’s actions.) They had to be extremely serious about the reprocussions for anyone other than a former first lady and secretary of state and presidential candidate who used to work side by side with the current attorney general before her husband made her a federal prosecutor.
Beyond, the statement today will likely be used by many defense teams for a decade to come; less so to get their client to walk, like Hillary is doing, and more so to indicate that selective prosecution is going on. If a high profile person is not even charged, why are you bothering with one classified e-mail that went to an AOL account?
As for the effect on Hillary? I think one of the liberal commentators on the local news pretty much nailed it. If you hated Hillary, you hated this decision. If you love Hillary, you thought this was just a politically motivated witch hunt (oh, look, a witch..) and this is a complete clearing of her name in their opinion.
If you’re Trump’s team, you’re salivating at the idea of bringing this up each and every debate. “I’d send you a copy, do you actually have a secure e-mail server yet?” “Watch her walk away from this issue just like she walked away without charges for mishandling classified documents.” “I’d ask you if you wanted to go on the record with that statement, but you tend to delete things that should be part of the record...”
Which, alas, will be red meat for those who hate Hillary, and badgering by an evil man for those who love her.
Thing is, and I really think this is a key, today solidifies the love or hate of Hillary. It is hard to fence sit now; either she walked away from committing many felonies or was finally vindicated from a Republican lead attack. There’s really no middle ground.
Trump has that opportunity to make up ground. “See, I’m not a crook” doesn’t really work as a campaign slogan for Hillary, but that’s what today gave her. I think that more people will take the unknown over the absolutely known lying, cheating and of course, crooked Hillary. Plus, hey, let’s be honest, this is just Bill Clinton’s 3rd campaign for president, only he isn’t man enough to directly say it (and imagines that this will get around the 26th which he so bitterly and often despised.)
Liberals hate facts... hate truth... hate anyone who uses facts. They love liars, criminals and scum....
It’s who liberals are... filthy lowlife with delusions of being magical... dreadful liars.
trump should start saying the she will have her security clearance revoked as a result of these violations, and can’t be president without it.
*hey, it doesn’t have to be true. it only has to be believed by some of the undecided voters. we learned that the hard way with harry reid and mittens’ tax returns.
He might very well have wanted to suggest indictment, but forces frightened him out of it.
Man... you can’t sneak anything past these Clinton Supporters. I mean... right after they read articles where it was discussed how damaging Comey’s statements were to Hillary, they got angry. How dare Comey state that Hillary was guilty as hell, but that no one in power wanted to indict her on any charges. How dare he tell the truth .
Faux anger. The fix was always in and they know it. Comey’s “Editorializing” is a bone they throw to Republican’s dumb enough to think there is ever a chance that a Clinton will face any charge.
Vote Trump.
Comey was told the case was going nowhere by Obama and Lynch. He was told he was going to recommend no prosecution so it doesn’t even have to be ignored by the DOJ. This was his way of getting the facts of the FBI investigation into the open.
My take.
That’s been my thought as well. Indicting her would have drawn Obama into her little drama bigtime.
Yes. Instead of being a stand up guy he bowed under the pressure but was angry about it all. He still showed the world what a weak poc he is. A real man would’ve done the right thing.
Respectfully, I do not see it as do you.
Time will tell, but I suspect that Mister Comey did not uphold his duties and responsibilites; I'll agree, however, that Mrs. Clinton is incapable of feeling embarrassment.
Dang I miss J. Edgar Hoover!
We need another with the stones like he had!
Bingo! To all those rabid left wingers who never learned the meaning or words, take this acronym and shove it: GFYATHYRIO.
Unfortunately, Comey destroyed the Rule of Law in the process...
If no FBI agent in the know has the guts to speak out on this then that will be proof of just how deep the corruption runs in the FBI.
They’re not angry at Comey per se, as they are that he stole their show.
Comey SHUT DOWN any and all of the sure crowing planned by the Left to say that she was exonerated and proven to be as innocent as the wind driven snow.
They can not unwind what he said. He excoriated her and defined her as a stupid, careless person in over her head and without reason. (paraphrased only slightly.)
He said no reasonable person at that level would fail to recognize classified material. Period. Marked or Unmarked, if a composition in any written form reveals who, what, where, when, why and how, then IT IS CLASSIFIED!
Even we FReepers know that.
