About 1.6 million people who signed up for coverage this year under President Barack Obamas health care law dropped out by the end of March, according to administration figures released late Thursday.
The report from the Health and Human Services department said some 11.1 million people were still signed up. But thats a drop of nearly 13 percent from the 12.7 million who initially enrolled for subsidized private coverage this year. Those dropouts failed to seal the deal by paying their premiums.

There are plenty of people that are required to sign up, have paid the tax penalty this year and advised by their tax guy that their fine for not paying goes real high this year.
The Obamacare penalty is still a better deal than Obamacare.
BTW the penalty is capped at the cost of the Bronze plan.
So you pay for the bronze plan and get nothing?
Husband and wife filing jointly and making adjusted income of $50,000 get a $1,372.00 fine.
The penalty is the higher of 2.5% or $695 per person, so by my calculation that’d be $1390. Not much different from your figure of $1372, but I’d be interested in how you got that.
If you bought an Obamacare policy without subsidies, it’d cost a lot more than $1,372.00, and you still have high out-of-pocket expenses.
If you don’t buy a policy, you’re gambling that you won’t get a catastrophic illness, but for a person in reasonably good health, I’d take it, given how expensive and bad Obamacare is. And if the illness is something that doesn’t require immediate big expenses, there’s always next year to buy a policy to cover it.
If you start getting close to the bronze plan cap, I guess you might as well buy one.
The only point I was making was that the penalty is capped, i.e., the percent-of-income penalty doesn't go to infinity.
Not so important for us maybe, but a big deal to Rush!
I understood your point. It actually caused me to go research more...and of course found out you were correct.
