Anton Yelchin, a rising actor best known for playing Chekov in the new "Star Trek" films, was killed in a car accident early Sunday, police and his publicist said.
Yelchin, 27, was struck by his own car as it rolled backward down his driveway in Studio City, according to Los Angeles police Officer Jenny Hosier. The car pinned Yelchin against a brick mailbox pillar and a security fence.
He had gotten out of the vehicle momentarily, but police did not say why he was behind it when it started rolling.
He was on his way to meet friends for a rehearsal, Hosier said. When he didn't show up, the group came to his home and found him dead.

What a shame, to have a promising young life ended by a stupid accident like this. RIP.
Precisely what happened to our neighbor last summer. No one saw it, but he had just played golf, ran into his house to get to do list his wife had left for him. The list and cash was found on the ground in the garage so we think he put car in reverse to leave, realized he dropped the list, got out but forgot to put it in park. He was found in the street, his head under the front drivers side tire. It appeared he was dragged by the car and then fell under it. Super nice guy, and just a gruesome bad death. The police said it happens quite a bit.
Maybe they could work it into the script and have his
character crushed by a rolling transporter...
Just saying, why let a good character just disappear?

Many fans argue that Kirk had a run in with the Q continum when they encountered “Trelane” and his “parents”.
That will get the Trekkers up in arms.
Yeah. That was what I heard too
That was the worst bit of pseudo-intellectual dreck I have wasted time on EVER.
Hey, I didn’t say it was valid.
So this fellow was 27 years old. Joined other unlucky entertainers.
You need to tell people your link is to The Huffington Post. That soiled my browser.
I was on the set of Fright Night with the guy.
Damn nice dude cause’ usually stars they’re pricks to the set crew and producers but he wasn’t (unlike Dicrapio). Farrell and Yelchin were like brothers on the set.
Whatever. He was a Russian immigrant. Send them all home. It is our way now.
Sad he died but at least it takes care of one problem.
Not a freak accident. Failure to comprehend the law of gravity.
Very sad. I liked him.
Sadly, he voiced a Smurf in the recent films. You can find it yourself, inappropriate for me to list it. Not funny.
He was great in Odd Thomas.
So sad.
RIP.
Star Trek Continues is by far the best of the new productions.
