There are gators pretty much everywhere in that part of Florida. We had one in my suburban north east florida neighborhood last year.

[[Why are there gators on that property?]]

The gators move this time of year .
They are in just about every fresh body of water in the state.
They really need a good hunt to bring the numbers of the really large ones down .

“Why are there gators on that property?”

Gators have more rights than people, don’t cha know...

Gators are big, active predators. Our forefathers knew they were dangerous. That is a big reason why they hunted them and kept their numbers down.

I was there as a kid in the 90s and they’re all in the surrounding pool.

Gators are a protected species. Nuisance and menacing gators can be removed under certain conditions, but that does not provide a basis for the removal of all gators from a large lake. In addition, gators tend to pop up in new places in the spring and summer as they roam looking for mates, food, and better habitat. As aquatic top predators, when adult gators see food, their reaction is to try to feed. Sadly, small children are seen as food by gators.

One must assume there are gators in EVERY body of water, lake, stream, or river in Florida. Never go into the water at night and always check your swimming pool too. Alligators can run faster than you.

That poor baby.

I used to go every year to this area because of work. I was amazed how many of these alligators I saw slithering back into the water as I approached. As a city girl, you can imagine my horror!

There are gators in every open body of water in Florida. That is how we raised our kids. These folks were from Nebraska and didn’t have the level of awareness to the danger that most Floridians have been raised with. The gators are highly mobile and swift as well, capable of seeking out new territories. It could be there one day and gone the next.

This is a horrible tragedy.

In the 10+ years we have lived in Central Florida I have been to DisneyWorld 28 times. Have never seen a gator.

However, if you see water anywhere in Florida, even flood control retention ponds, you always treat it as though gators are in it. And you never just go wading in the water. The splashing attracts them like a dinner bell. Especially at night when they are most active.

Biggest mistake people make is feeding the damn things. That makes them equate humans with food. "Oh. You have no food for me? OK. I'll just take you or the next person I see when I am hungry."

It's Florida, there are gators in just about every body of water there. A fellow Freeper posted earlier today, that there are signs all over the parks that there are gators there, and to stay away from the water's edge.

Cuz it's Florida. It's a giant, nasty, sweltering swamp.

I detest the place. And gators.

There are gators all over the place in that area. People try to keep them out of certain places but it doesn’t really work. They can travel long distances over dry land so the truth is they can go anywhere they please if they are determined. Regularly people find them in their backyard pool that they thought was securely fenced against them.

Some people make a lot of money in that area gathering up gators that get where people don’t want them to be. They are a serious threat always in areas they like.
