The Washington National Cathedral says it will remove two images of the Confederate battle flag from the building's stained glass windows. Then the church will hold a period of public discussion on issues of race, slavery and justice, and revisit the question of how to treat other depictions of the Civil War on the windows.
The windows in question memorialize Confederate Gens. Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson; they were installed in 1953 after lobbying by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. They feature images from the lives of the two generals, and include two Confederate battle flags.
A five-person task force that examined the windows' symbolic power said the flags cannot remain on the cathedral as they have thus far in the building's history. But instead of quietly taking down the windows, the task force recommended replacing just the flags then using the windows as a starting point for a series of conversations.

If you think this is just beginning, you haven’t been paying attention. They’ve been doing this for the better part of 30 years.
We continue to see an entire region and people blamed for the murders in Charleston. Meanwhile, whenever a Muslim murders, we are quickly told not to cast blame, not to profile, not to talk bad about a religion of peace. Its nothing more than an excuse to carry on with the third reconstruction.
These are some people in a failing organization, the US Episcopal Church, who need some new publicity! How pathetic is this. No better than ISIS.
Stonewall was Presbyterian, so I’m not sure why he’d be depicted in a ‘Piske church.
I see the battle flag in the middle window pictured; where is the other one?
There’s another picture at the link.
Thanks.
re: “Dunno but they are inviting a response with Wrist-rockets and ball bearings.”
Ball bearings might cost a bit.
I suggest .58 caliber lead balls, as were used in some rifles of that fateful period of time. It would have an ironic bit of historic ‘lead-flying’, would it not?
Yep....
the taliban is not American but is the Black Taliban, one of the many subcultures of Black Americans
Black people aren’t doing this. It is the liberals who create these senseless acts so they can pretend they are helping in the “struggle”.
I have quit thinking of Black People as a homogeneous group. That is the political trick to create the appearance of unity where there actually is none. There is no “Black Community”
I have rather come to think in the sense of multiple black subcultures.
I have not yet defined them but it is congealing. There is the black political subculture depicted so well in the TV series the Wire and personified by the Baltimore City mayor and prosecutor. There is a jock subculture personified as Michael Jordan that night be really Basket Ball and a Football subcultures. There is a middle class hard working, good citizen church going, middle class subculture. There is the urban/drug sub culture that is associated with the urban gangs. They might be separate.
Generally they are all liberal but as we know here, there are good conservatives in the mix that are probably in need of sorting out. I suspect the conservatives exist as outliers in most of the other subcultures.
For the case in point, the Black Taliban in question is an effort by the Black Political subculture to enhance the agenda and subject and perhaps pervert the minds of say the jocks or the workers.
Any way, it is a way to make a fresh look and as a culturalist, criticize the people in the political culture that happen to be black, and not be racist. Being a culturalist is not racist.
Conservatives need to take up language play to combat the language plague imposed by the left.
And the liberal white-owned media would like you to think that the only black subculture that matters is the "Angry" one.
Clarence Thomas? He isn't really "black", don'cha know?
My first thought as well...
So, they should just tear down the entire cathedral.
Reminds me of something I read years ago about Notre Dame de Paris.
In the late 1700s or early 1800s someone got the bright idea of busting out all the stained glass to let in more sunlight.
Then years later when Victor Hugo published the HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME everyone had serious misgivings about their mistake in destroying the windows.
But why are they going to keep the flag that flew last over the SLAVE STATES that did not give up slavery for eight months after the war ended, until the 13th Amendment was passed, The STARS AND STRIPES.
And everyone got mad when The Taliban destroyed the Buddhist statues.
Erasing history is erasing history.
.
Ridiculous. And I say this as the descendent of Union soldiers.
Just wonder when was the last time a service was presided by someone at the National Cathedral who actually believed in the divinity of Christ.
