I think that some people use the same logic to convert to Islam. Scott Adams piece may be sarcasm, but some will take the path of least resistance if they see their life threatened.

So I’ve decided to endorse Hillary Clinton convert to Islam for President, for my personal safety. Trump supporters Christians don’t have any bad feelings about patriotic Americans Muslims such as myself, so I’ll be safe from that crowd. But Clinton supporters Muslims have convinced me – and here I am being 100% serious – that my safety is at risk if I am seen as Christian supportive of Trump. So I’m taking the safe way out and converting to Islam endorsing Hillary Clinton for president.

No. It is semi-satire. If it were serious and he had made made the decision to support Mrs. Bill he would have defended it on policy or in ideological terms. Instead he is defending his "choice" in words that would still get him killed if the Kremlin White House were to start killing political enemies.
