AMITE, La. - Decked out in full cap and gown, complete with a valedictorian cord, Andrew Jones showed up to his graduation from Amite High School ready to experience his hard work paying off.
He didn't get the chance because of what he was wearing on his face.
"Eventually they took my gown," he recalled, "They told me they had to take my gown from me."

Life is not about a job history.. life is about living.. You don’t win any special prizes in your coffin for being a follower..
There is no possible academic justification for the school telling the student what kind of facial hair to have or not have. It is an abuse of power, pure and simple.
There is a dress code. Kid ignored it. Diploma in the mail.
Don’t get near me looking for a job. This entire hate towards people wanting a look is up to the individual.
Keep your nose rings home as well.
There is no Power in HS. There are standards.
What purpose do you think this rule serves?
Hmmm...no fooling
Don’t want your job. Don’t have nose rings.
My face burns all day if I shave, and that’s without the incredibly uncomfortable irritation of shaving cream that makes it worse. I won’t endure that for you or anybody. I’ve had my beard for over 30 years, that was the last time I shaved it, for 2 days, and probably will never do so again. As I said, the only reason I will consider it is if your job has a legitimate safety reason to require shaving. Not even machine shops had that.
We are in HS buddy.
Beards and mustaches are fine.
Discipline is the order of the day. Can’t do it, not gonna have you.
This has nothing to do with anything other than discipline.
If you don’t have it, you never will.
Don’t come crying to me when you need a job.
Don’t think we’ll see him again now that I’ve exposed that he’s defending a school which has a standard for facial hair but no standards for its own academic performance.
Facial hair, by golly - a violation of discipline if ever there was one! That’s why the country is going to hell! What’s that? Reading and writing and math and science? Not important at all, dammit! There’s rules-offending facial hair destroying the country!
I went to to two different schools. One required a uniform, the other didn’t. I preferred wearing a uniform because I didn’t have to think what I was going to wear the next day. I could focus on homework and having fun. We were more concerned about grades and being the top student in the class.
Times sure have changed.
I’m probably a bit hard right on this but standards of dress and presentation are a part of my upbringing. The USAF was very determined on this.
My high school had dress codes. This boy knew the code and decided he would tell the administrators to get bent.
That is his choice. He cannot say that to the entire school.
He gets his diploma in the mail. I don’t care if he is the next Charles Barkley or not.
Adhering to stupid rules is your priority for the students at this school. Whether they actually learn something there is none of your concern.
You have demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that you’re a person with incredibly messed up priorities.
And now that you’ve been caught flat-out having dug into this utter absurdity, all you can do is resort to name-calling.
Years from now when he’s turned down for jobs because someone finds these articles in Google, he’s going to wish he had a “Do Over”.
I’m having fun gator! These kids are wild.
Looking forward to the SEC for once. Gonna be at the All Star in Concord tomorrow.
God Bless You Buddy!
Apparently you are as shameless as you are authoritarian.
