Just an FYI, but I finally splurged for a decent cooking thermometer (Thermapen) and it's made a real difference already in how well my steaks and chicken breasts turn out on the grill.

Reads very fast, sensor at the tip, and NIST traceable.

That’s been on my husband’s ‘wish list’ ever since he first saw it in ‘Cooks Illustrated’ - I think Alton Brown liked it too. I think I’ve gotten him all the Victorinox he wanted; so maybe next holiday...

+1

Best you can buy. I’ve used them for years now.

The guy on the cooking show on the radio was talking about this. Best $100 ever spent, he said. On the wish list!

My Son gave me one of the meat fork digital thermometers and I use it all the time. It sure helps knowing internal temps.

I went with the LavaTools version at less than half the price, closer to a third.

Maybe not as water resistant, slightly slower, somewhat less heat resistant too.

Haven't had time to check the calibration, either. And it runs on a CR-2032 battery, versus the more ubiquitous penlight.

Oh, an audible temp stabilization that can be held when removing for reading.

And, it has weak magnets that will hold it to the fridge...
