Saudi Police cars stop the vehicle safely
An Arab man driving a Mercedes at 190 kph (120 mph) in Saudi Arabia got a shock when he could no longer control the brakes because of a malfunction.
The man was on a motorway between the Western towns of Makkah and Medina when the brakes of his 1991 model Mercedes stopped working.
“He called the police, who sent many vehicles to escort his car along the motorway. Eventually they managed to stop the Mercedes by letting it bang into a police car from behind,” Sada daily said.
um... there is this thing called a key... you might want to turn it to the off position.
Wait. What?
There’s no conventional key on newer cars, and no kill switch.
Yes there is. The "start" button is also "stop". Besides, it was a 1991.
Let your foot off the gas... as speed allows, select lower gears. In a mile or so you should be basically stopped. Idiot Saudi.
This was a 25 year old car. It also came with a thing called a transmission to take it out of gear.
Then there’s Bob Newhart’s driving instructor: “The other way of stopping?” “You throw it in reverse.”
Set the cruise control to “0”.
- Shift to neutral
- Gently apply parking brake
- Cut engine if it revs into the red
- Buy an Audi
That’s about 100MPH. I’ve gone down the interstates in crappy weather in 40+ year old pickup trucks faster than that.

Officer, my brakes didn’t work because my lead foot was stuck on the gas pedal.

It is actually less than the interstate speed limits on many roads around here which are 75 mph. 120kph = 74.5645mph to be precise. What an incredibly stupid Saudi.

That fact is what just floors me when I hear about deaths due to runaway Toyotas.

Even an automatic transmission has a neutral gear positon!!
Thought it said 160kph. Either way, a drunk teenager texting in the US could still manage some control at that speed.
