Searching for Bobby Fischer . . . The Hustler . . . The Natural . . . Hoosiers . . . The Big Lebowski . . . Some of the most memorable movies center around a game and dedication to mastering it.
What are your favorite movies in which a game plays a central role? Board games, card games, sports . . . any games will do!
More than forty years later and that movie is more timely than ever before. And getting timelier.
Unfortunately.
This thread was in fact prompted by recently watching The Hustler for the first time. I am fascinated by games (ludology) but for some reason find the rules to most of them difficult to learn.
I think I was expecting more poker movies, especially given poker's recent popularity (though I don't believe in gambling myself). I also enjoy the old "Climax!" episode of Casino Royale from the 50s. Are there any bridge movies?
One would think there would be more movies about chess than there are. Although Searching for Bobby Fischer is worth more than thirty mediocre movies on the same subject.
Saw I - VI. “I want to play a game...”
Not necessarily favorites, but the meme came to mind...
1. Miracle - 1980 USA Olympic Hockey Team - Gives me chills every time I watch it.
2. A League Of Their Own - “There’s No Crying In Baseball”
3. Major League - “This ain’t the California penal league”
4. Youngblood - Hockey - Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze
Clue
Not a favorite, but I thought Wreck It Ralph was kinda cute.
Thanks for the recommendation.. watched “Goon” today was great..
