If you only look at Jerry Reed’s hits as vocalist, you might shrug. However, if you look at his work as a guitarist, you have to just stare in awe. He was a huge talent.

I thought she got the shaft.

One of my favorites. In 1990, my ex got the house, about $20K/year which I’m still paying. I got my four kids and all the bills.

A lesser known movie that I remember from the CBS network run with Morgan Fairchild in a most unconvincing wig - Concrete Cowboys.
One of my favorite Jerry Reed songs is the theme.

I liked the “feud” he had with Bill Dance after Dance made him release a huge bass when Jerry wanted to keep the fish. The next appearance on Bill’s fishing show had Jerry Reed (in a poor disguise) pouring sugar in the bass boat’s fuel tank.

I not only met Jerry around this time in his career (I was about 13 at the time), but I sat thisclose to him on his tour bus when Dad interviewed him for his radio program. He was a hoot, sitting there and noodling around on an acoustic git-box and cracking wise. Him, Ronnie Milsap, The Hager Twins, Marty Robbins, Loretta Lynn (oooooo, she had a thing for Dad, hee hee hee *wink*wink*), If they were on Hee Haw in the 70's, I met them, up close and personal. I think my mother has about a hundred Polaroids taken during those days by one of the intern DJ/gofers from the station. I gotta find them this Christmas. Good memories.

He had quite the comedic timing as well. Love that Southern humor. Nothin’ better.

He was a full-range performer: guitar, singing, and comedy. Overwhelming talent.

Compare that to performers who “hit the big time ...”
You just have to believe that Jerry Reed knew how talented he was and accepted where it took him: a very good music and film career.

There are a lot of talented musicians around. You just have to use your own judgment to identify instrumental virtuosity, vocal talent, songwriting gifts, and so on.
The music business today blows up certain performers, on the one hand, but gives lots of other the chance to find an audience and make a reasonable living.
