(Vanity) The Mitt Romney Doomsday Scenario

Posted on 05/07/2016 9:19:58 PM PDT by GLDNGUN

Mitt Romney running as a independent in the 2016 general Presidential election is quickly becoming a very strong possibility, folks. The scary and nearly unthinkable result is that he could end up not just denying Donald Trump the Presidency but could become President himself. Think I'm crazy? Take a closer look.

Need to start calling Romney...The NEW LYNDON LAROUCHE

A perennial candidate, and perennial loser.

He’ll split the Hillary vote, not the Trump vote. Let him run.

The beauty of the HOR scenario in the article is that it doesn't MATTER whose vote he splits, as long as he splits the electoral college. Strom Thurmond in 1948 got 39 electoral votes, George Wallace in 1968 got 46 electoral votes and was close enough in NC, TN, and FL that a few thousand votes would have sent the election to the House (and elected Hubert Humphrey President).

So it's not mathematically impossible for a third party candidate to win enough EVs for the election to go to the House.

Yep. Outside the Mormon community Romney is about as popular as a STD.

Isn’t getting registered in each state an arduous process? Has Romney been secretly undertaking this effort or is he about to begin?

I cannot imagine some folks who are attracted to Trump changing their vote to Romney.

They are not going to run just one candidate. They are going to run 5 or 6 different people in a handful of states.
They will pick a well known, popular person from each of those states that has a good chance of winning their state.

Cool. I lived in North Dakota back in the time and, since I was young and foolish too, I knew more than a few types who couldn't vote for any Republican if their life depended on it. Just couldn't. However, they had to admit Carter was a dismal and utter failure. The evidence was staring them in the face daily.

I remember how giddy the Carter people were when Reagan won the nomination over Bush. It would be such an easy win. They were also giddy even before when John B. Anderson announced an independent run on April 25 after losing three consecutive primaries where he was supposed to do well, including Wisconsin.

The popular wisdom was that he would get the mainstream GOP voters (sound familiar?) plus the Democrats disgusted with Carter. He even named former Wisconsin (Democrat) governor Pat Lucey running mate and the ticket polled 22% nationally right out of the gate.

By September, as the Carter-Reagan race tightened, it became clear Anderson was drawing more votes from Jombo, who tried very hard to ignore him and even refused to attend the first debate, because Reagan insisted on including Anderson.

Do you remember the empty chair representing Carter?

His only legacy would be The Man Who Destroyed the GOP.

I seem to recall not too long ago that the Republican Party was concerned Trump was going to do this.....

I remember hearing from clowns like Jeb, Romney and Ryan how bad this would be for the Republican Party.

As a matter of fact one of the first questions in the first Republican debate in Clevland was will you going to support the Republican nominee no matter who it was. Funny how so many of these guys that were all for this have suddenly changed their mind after Trunp won.

Many of us have predicted for years that if the GOPe didn't win the nomination, all of their bleating about supporting the nominee would get tossed out the window. We've been proven right.

This is bizarre. Romney’s son said that he really didn’t want to be president in 2012, and I find that quite plausible. Otherwise, why did he take a dive in the final two presidential debates after winning the first one hands down?

If he really wants to be president, why didn’t he throw his hat into the ring at the start of the primary season? Why start now, when he has no money, no campaign organization, and it’s probably too late to get on the ballot in many states?

The sky is falling, the sky is falling said Chicken Little.

There is little to no chance Mitt Romney is going to run as an Independent. There is a small cadre of politicians and members of the chattering class who are seeing their gravy train leave the station and they are throwing a tantrum. Some like Paul Ryan will likely ruin their political career over it.

Donald J. Trump is the next nominee of the GOP and likely the next President. This will all be finalized at the Republican convention.

The Republican voting base is purging the party of stale leftovers such as the Bush dynasty and failed candidates like Mitt Romney. Look for a lot of screeching and whining as they reluctantly exit the stage. But there will be no third party.

This stupid. Romney isn’t going to run, and there isn’t going to be this third party candidate. Why should these false stories keep being floated?

You are naïve. You obviously aren't aware of what lengths the establishment (dem & GOP) will go to in order to keep Trump out of the Oval Office.

Nobody is going to vote for that phony Romney.

Oh, there would be quite a few in certain places like Utah and Idaho.
