Bushes’ snub of Trump has roots in Republican base anger
Washington Post ^ | May 5 at 12:27 PM | David Weigel

Losing the endorsements of George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush — as harsh an indictment as the "establishment" can offer — is no punishment at all in the eyes of many conservatives.

...

The utter failure of the Bush brand surprised some people, given that Republican voters still generally say that they like Bush. But this ignores the role both Bushes now play in conservative history — as sellouts. George H.W. Bush's acceptance of a tax hike (forced on him by a Democratic Congress) is the Genesis story of the anti-tax movement. George W. Bush's record in office, for all of the gains it meant for conservative, is remembered instead for the bailout, the push to legalize immigrants and No Child Left Behind.

I’m glad the Bush clan decided to snub Trump. It only helps the cause, and hopefully puts the final coffin nail in the Bush dynasty.

Next up: Bury the ‘toons.

In any sane and rational world, being snubbed by the Bush family would be an actual requirement for holding political office. ;)

It probably has a lot to do with the way Trump treated Jeb.

Homeland Security, TSA, Iraq, domestic surveillance (NSA) ... off the top of my head.

So the Bushes are skipping the convention?

Good! Time to get outta the bushes!

We’ve had enough of their political dynasty.

Twice in a lifetime is more than enough.

At this point in my life and having lived through the deceit, lying and incompetence of at least two Bush’s and dodging a bullet on a third, I don’t consider an endorsement by a Bush any plus at all.

Even today, Bush’s TSA in Atlanta is embarking on a whole new plateau of citizen oppression with their new “remodeling” to “serve us better.” Lines HOURS long now.

If they were well liked by Republican voters, Jeb would be the nominee now.

Lyin’ MSM meme. They’re loathed.

Finally, a Bush-free convention is a dream come true.

I think it runs deeper than that. Trump has been openly critical of the Iraq war, and at one point said that Bush lied about WMD. He walked that back, but he wouldn't have said it in the first place if he didn't believe it.

I hope this signals the end of the Bush dynasty, and that Hillary’s defeat will likewise be the end of the Arkansas trailer-trash Clinton dynasty. We don’t need no stinkin’ dynasies! This is America, dammit, not some European monarchy1

GWB can zing everybody he pleases with the frat boy-style nicknames he makes up, but don’t anyone dare call Jeb “low energy” or some other snarky thing.

Bush greased the skids for Obama to whom Bush, at Obama’s inauguration, wished Obama good luck in his endeavors a President. (Chaney’s look at the same time showed he wasn’t so duped.)

Bush is CLUELESS and definitely part of status quo institutional problem in America AKA “the establishment.”

Many, if not most conservatives voted for the Republican candidate over the Dem candidate while holding our noses.

You mean had a lot to do with how Trump trounced low energy Jeb. Jeb is an embarrassment, I'm wondering how he ever got elected statewide.

Remember, the Bushs are “low energy”.

When Trump beats Hillary, he will have rid us of both the Bushs and the clintons in one season.

Not an easy task.

Obama will be gone in januarary, along with his czars and admins, then people like Reid, palomino, McConnell, Ryan, etc will wander aimlessly for 40 days without that leadership.

Oh the humanity...

The fact that the Bush’s snub him is WHY they are not in favor any more.

They are ass hole RINO’s, and Trump is a RESPONSE to anger over that.

The eGOP *STILL* do not get it.

They are acting like “Ok, I guess we’ll LET YOU run...” when in fact they should be LUCKY if he even talks to them.

Trump is an ANSWER to the repeated lies and promises and failure to deliver of the GOP

Trump has said very damaging and incorrect statements on Bush's hard line conduct in the War on Terrorism , which Trump is making political hay out of by taking an even harder line stance than that which Bush was excoriated for
