New Owner of McLaren 650S Crashes 10 Minutes After Delivery

A newly minted McLaren owner in England became a little over-excited following the delivery of his brand-new supercar. Telegraph reports that the owner of a McLaren 650S stuffed the coupe into a tree just 10 minutes after the car arrived at his house for the first time.

The report states that neighbors spotted the owner celebrating supercar ownership with a bottle of champagne right after the car arrived at his doorstep. Not 10 minutes later, the owner introduced the front end of his $265,000 supercar to the ever-sturdy trunk of an innocent tree. The collision was severe enough to demolish the front end of the car, scattering bits of the carbon fiber bodywork all over the immediate area.

While it isn’t easy to sympathize with the owner, it is simple to understand how the driver lost control. With a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine sending 641 hp and 500 lb-ft to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the 650S scampers to 62 mph in a chest-compressing 3 seconds, and on to a top speed of 207 mph. These are not performance figures of a forgiving and easy-to-manage car.

Essex police are not completely sure on the identity of the driver who was piloting the car at the time, and are still conducting an investigation.

Exactly. I have had an interest in cars since I was a youth but have never driven in a car like this. I would get serious training in a high performance driving school before ever doing so. I did recently test drive the Tesla but was very cautious and a bit nervous while doing so since it was the most expensive car I had ever driven. It wasn’t the performance edition but even so it was new to me in a number of different ways and you need to know what you are doing before doing anything out there on the road.

Michael Dukakis was beating George H Bush by 10 points and Reagan will getting slammed by Jimmy Carter.

Yup on all counts. If Trump runs to win, he should win, and handily.

20 hours of lessons should be included with the purchase of the car.

A doctor friend bought a new Ford GT about 10 years ago. Not the mustang, the GT.
The battery was weak so he took it to the dealership for a battery. Yes, you guessed it, the service manager and mechanic decided it need a test drive to be sure the battery worked. Yes, they wrecked it!!

I recall a similar incident documented in Road and Track about 15 or 20 years ago. An American received his new Maclaren F1 and promptly broke the tires free, sending it into a tree. $250K damage, after only 2 miles of driving.

Some clown whacked a Ferrari into a retaining wall somewhere in England last week also. If you’ve ever seen British roads you might wonder where someone would even try to drive a car like that. It’d be like buying a supercharged drag bike to ride around on Manhattan.

Years ago something similar happened to me too. Brand new truck, and not 12 hrs after I bought it someone backed into it in a parking lot. Dented the rear bumper and took out a tail-light - and they left, hit and run. I hope karma choked the living s**t out of them. Maybe they saw the temporary tag in the back window and realized I’d have choked them out if I had caught them.

Yeras ago a friend worked a high end sports car place on a lot so small they had to unload deliveries on the adjacent highway ramp, run them down to the next exit and U turn them back to the shop.

Road construction narrowed the lanes so bad that on one return trip he got squeezed by a semi against the conc. barrier and tore up a new Porche Boxter with eight miles on the odometer.

I actually saw a McLaren yesterday at a pizza place I frequent for lunch. Wife and I came out and immediately we saw a car there that just didn't belong. It was a fiery copper color. I had actually never heard of the car and looked up the brand on the way home. I could tell it was some high performance vehicle even though I know very little about such cars. My wife even commented that I had taken such a fancy to it.

I think she hinted that she's going to get me one for our upcoming anniversary. Yeah, I think that's what she said. :)

I guess if you are rich enough to buy a McLaren, you're rich enough for the cops to not be able to identify you when you drink and drive (into a tree).

A trip down memory lane all the way back to 1983: Dennis Barnhart killed himself in a Ferrari the day his Eagle Computer went public and he scored $9 million for himself.

Hard to believe companies were being formed at a furious pace to deliver what are now almost commodities.

There’s a McLaren dealership a mile from me right next door to the Tesla dealership. Lot of beautiful machinery on display there — best eye candy ever. It’s a rare day in Silicon Valley when you don’t see some HyperCar on the streets. Unfortunately, my 13 year old Expedition remains my daily driver.
