Why has FR turned on Cruz?
vanity | today | me

Posted on 05/02/2016 2:30:43 PM PDT by bassmaner

I'll keep this vanity short ... Mods: please feel free to pull it if it's inappropriate.

Why have so many here on FR turned on Ted Cruz in such a vicious way?

We cheered when we first heard about Ted taking on the establishment in TX to win the primary in the race to fill Kay Bailey Hutchison's vacated Senate seat, in a bad year for the GOP

We cheered again when Ted exhorted us to 'Stand With Rand' when he offered public support for Rand Paul's filibuster over the NDAA

Once more, we cheered when he stood on the Senate floor and urged his colleagues to join him and use the power of the purse to kill Obamacare

We nodded our collective heads in approval when he openly and correctly called Mitch McConnell a liar

And we jumped for joy when he became the first GOPer to announce a presidential run!

So ... what happened? Yes, Trump announced. But at first, not too many people took him seriously. For the longest time, there seemed to be an unspoken pact between Trump and Cruz, where they occasionally said nice things about each other while bashing the other candidates.

But ever since the voting began and Trump turned on Cruz (starting with the Ben Carson imbroglio in Iowa), a large contingent of FReepers did the same and seem to be echoing RINOs like John Boehner and Peter King in their absolute abhorrence of Cruz.

Yes, we need to choose sides, but for God's sake, can't we send that kind of vitriol in the direction that it belongs, ie. Hildabeast and the 'Rat Party, and knock off the circular firing squad?

I’ll gladly vote for Trump if he gets the nomination. Will you vote for Cruz if he gets it ?

Agree that Trump/Cruz would be best. Balanced dream team. Would allow each to utilize skill set they bring to the table and provide leadership which has the best chance of turning our country around.

Trump and the rest used tried and true socialistic techniques to destroy Cruz. Stalin would be proud. As well, clear back in 2012 after the Romney disaster I swore to myself that I would never again vote for a idiot of a loser for president again. I am sticking to my promise to myself.

Same here, I voted for Cruz. But the Chicago in identifying and the creepy religious stuff coming from his dad and Beck, and the fearmonger stuff he comes out with about Trump finally turned me to Trump. For awhile I didn’t care which one won the nomination, but the way Cruz has shown disrespect for the millions of voters had caused me to disrespect him, I don’t care if he is playing by rules.

Throughout this thread, I’ve noticed several times name calling on the part of Cruz supporters, aimed at us. Yet, we are hate filled and have made being on FR so difficult? Total break with reality.

Why has FR turned on Cruz?

At first glance, Cruz seemed like the real deal. However, Cruz exposed himself and it wasn't a pretty sight. He made a mistake running for president because now his senate job is over, too. I doubt he'll win re-election.

Add that all to the fact that regardless of where Cruz was born, he is not eligible to be president because his father was Cuban national and the founding fathers said that is not acceptable, today's unconstitutional courts not withstanding. If Cruz or Rubio would have gotten the nomination, I would have refused to vote for either one.

He cant in any way that will not rip the GOP permanently apart, so the question is a pointless one.

Just curious. Can you show me where they said that?

Sure. 80+% of long-time FReepers are closet liberals and dumber than geese...

You’ve got it all figured out. You couldn’t possibly be the one who’s mistaken.

I haven’t seen people claiming that Boehner’s word is sterling. I could imagine people saying a stopped clock, etc. But hopefully conservatives are not looking to Boehner for truth. That would be misguided.

This may just be me, but I would find it far easier to believe Boehner thought his insults would help Cruz than hurt him. Boehner didn’t resign because he was popular. He knows very well the base detests him. If he complimented Cruz, that would be the kiss of death, and Boehner is not so new to DC as to not know it. If the former Speaker wanted to get Cruz some extra media attention, and also wanted to boost Ted’s stock, he went about it just right.

“Trump and the rest used tried and true socialistic techniques to destroy Cruz. “

I’m sure you have TONS of examples of these “socialistic techniques”, which I’m sure will TOTALLY pass the laugh test.

Just damn excellent post. What has needed to be said around these parts for a long time now.

Nope.....cant figure out why Trump supporters see Cruz’s as arrogant, self-righteous, snobbish douches that shoot off their mouths but have the IQ of a bumpkin.

Are you referring to Ted Cruz or my humble self? If you're referring to Ted Cruz, he is a very intelligent man. If you're referring to moi, I'm not running for President or any other office.

You may happen to dislike me, but I doubt we'll ever meet. And I doubt you'll see me on television.

The real answer to your question, Why has FR turned on Cruz?" is that FReepers are simply following instructions:

"Continue insulting us with 24/7 anti-Trump diatribes and insults, your opus will be assumed."...

~~~~~~~~~~~~
...back to commenting on non-political subjects -- wherein lie much of the enjoyment on FR, of late...
