They have alternatives in place in case one or more can’t make it. They would still be bound in the first round of voting.

That's a good question. I hope Trump's team is researching it.

1) State delegations report their results, so only one delegate is required to be on the floor to report results.

2) States which fail to report their results are simply excluded from the required total. This has happened multiple times in the past.

3) Individual delegates report their vote to the state leader who then reports it to the convention - If the delegate or their alternative is not present and their vote not registered previously, the state leader may cast the vote as they see fit for the delegate.

So could ‘blue flu’ happen? Sure. Wouldn’t make a bit of difference.

There is a one-for-one alternate backup for delegates.

Think of every dirty trick Marxists have tried to pull over the last 100 years and expect worse at this convention as they see their goal of taking down America threatened by Trump.

They have subs. So, if one fails to show, someone is right there waiting to fill the seat.

I’ve heard, but don’t know if it’s true, that they count the bound votes as bound regardless of whether anyone shows up to vote or whether they try to vote for someone else on the first ballot.

Don’t really know how that works.

Dunno,

But it’s not a role call vote to each delegate. IIRC.

You get together state by state, and then they call by state.

Texas....votes X number of delegates for Cruz, and Y for Trump

NY votes X for Trump, and Y for Cruz, etc.

I believe they don’t want any sign of shenanigans. In fact, I bet that if he is within 50 votes of the 1237, the GOP will actually rig it FOR Trump, and hand him the nomination.

A lot of pundits and nut jobs have said the GOP wants a contested convention, but I doubt it. It’s true that they have fought Trump tooth and nail, but they will not risk getting caught with the appearance of cheating.

The damage to their brand from angering 12 million enthusiastic supporters of the most beloved Republican candidate since Ronald Reagan would be irreparable.

Besides, they don’t think he’ll beat Clinton in November anyway, so what do they gain by blowing up the party?

If enough were missing and had no alternates that there would be problems, in the past they would have a quorum roll call and delay the first vote. This year, depending on who is in control, all bets are off. Very unlikely this could be arranged, though if Trump is only a few delegates above the mark, it is a bit easier to pull off.

I think it would be whomever got the majority of the delegates that are present. That would be bad if the Trump delegates are locked out.

Slow down and think for a moment. You’re talking about delegates who are bound by state party rules to vote for trump. Every one knows the rules and knows how the delegates are supposed to vote. Trump’s floor managers will know which states are required to report exactly how many votes for trump. Any deviations will be corrected and the votes will be tallied as required by the state party rules.

You’re thinking that each states delegation will meet and the delegates will actually vote. Doesn’t happen that way for bound delegates. Only those delegates who are unbound actually cast a vote on a ballot. The votes for the bound delegates are automatically cast for their candidate. In the event a delegate want to get stinky and insist upon voting differently, that delegate would be replaced by an alternative who would vote the correct way.

I suspect that the GOP does not want that to happen. One candidate has been talking up how he will win on the second ballot; thirdie appears to think he will have it on ballot 2. I doubt the GOP will want it to get there if Trump is supposed to get there on the first as the GOP will have then actually cheated and stolen the nomination and the other candidate and thirdie will never be viewed as legitimate nominees and there will be a question mark hanging over their heads.
