We hear that all these delegates, even though they are obligated to support Trump on the "first ballot", are able to switch their votes on subsequent ballots.
What if Trump reaches the 1,237 votes or whatever....but some of the delegates get "blue flu" during the first ballot and do not show up? Or if they claim "rioters" have kept them from getting to the convention hall?
On subsequent ballots, then, they could vote against Trump?
Slow down and think for a moment. You’re talking about delegates who are bound by state party rules to vote for trump. Every one knows the rules and knows how the delegates are supposed to vote. Trump’s floor managers will know which states are required to report exactly how many votes for trump. Any deviations will be corrected and the votes will be tallied as required by the state party rules.
You’re thinking that each states delegation will meet and the delegates will actually vote. Doesn’t happen that way for bound delegates. Only those delegates who are unbound actually cast a vote on a ballot. The votes for the bound delegates are automatically cast for their candidate. In the event a delegate want to get stinky and insist upon voting differently, that delegate would be replaced by an alternative who would vote the correct way.
Riots in the streets.
My guess too...

I think the real question is What if the delegates go rogue and ignore the fact that they are pledged/bound and vote for “X” instead of “Y” ,, What’s going to happen? there’s no “delegate jail” ... I doubt that there are any meaningful penalty provisions... probably just banned from ever being a delegate again... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZtSA9lGfk8
Rogue delegates are disqualified and replaced.
There isnt a vote on the first ballot. They simple turn in the results from theprimary. This is all made up hogwash.
I suspect that the GOP does not want that to happen. One candidate has been talking up how he will win on the second ballot; thirdie appears to think he will have it on ballot 2. I doubt the GOP will want it to get there if Trump is supposed to get there on the first as the GOP will have then actually cheated and stolen the nomination and the other candidate and thirdie will never be viewed as legitimate nominees and there will be a question mark hanging over their heads.
He's the bright light this time around. Hillary is the dim bulb.
