Target Boycott Petition Breaks 1 Million Signatures

TUPELO, Miss. (ChurchMilitant.com) - A petition calling for a nationwide boycott of Target has broken 1 million signatures.

Organized by pro-family non-profit the American Family Association (AFA), the petition comes in response to an announcement last week from the retail giant in which the company stated it would allow "transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity."

"Inclusivity is a core belief at Target," the post reads. "It's something we celebrate. We stand for equality and equity, and strive to make our guests and team members feel accepted, respected and welcomed in our stores and workplaces every day."

The short announcement concludes by asserting "[e]veryone deserves to feel like they belong."

The statement has been met with much backlash from various organizations, including the AFA, which maintains that policies like the one implemented by Target are "exactly how sexual predators get access to their victims."

"Clearly, Target's dangerous new policy poses a danger to wives and daughters," the AFA notes. "We think many customers will agree. And we think the average Target customer is willing to pledge to boycott Target stores until it makes protecting women and children a priority."

The petition was launched shortly after news had broken of Target's announcement and has since garnered a little over 1 million signatories who pledge to "shop elsewhere" until "Target makes the safety of women and children a priority."

The organization cites examples from across the country of what they claim Target's policy can lead to, including multiple cross-dressing men arrested in various states for filming inside of women's restrooms and locker rooms.

Despite the recent surge in pro-transgender initiatives sweeping the country's schools and stores, several studies indicate the percentage of Americans who identify as transgender to be well below 1 percent, with a 2011 paper by the Williams Institute estimating the number at around 700,000 adult Americans — or 0.3 percent — of the population. According to the 2010 census, around 22,000 had legally changed their sex, and only a little over 135,000 have legally changed their name to one of the opposite gender since the formation of the Social Security Administration in 1936.

The Census Bureau does not currently track gender identity and, despite pushes for the collection of data on transgender individuals to improve statistics, the agency asserts it has no plans to include such information in the 2020 census.

That is not the argument, nor is that a valid argument against the boycott, though there is linkage. It is simply wrong to offend as well as possibly endanger those with normal, Biblical moral sensibilities in order to accommodate the perverse disordered sensibilities of a minority. Free speech rights do not apply here. See arguments against the boycott responded to here, by God's grace.

And in any case, since Target wants everyone to "feel like they belong" but which means those who do not subscribe to this immoral inclusive policy do not feel like they belong, then why are you attacking the latter boycotting the store?

The Lord came to save from sin, which everybody has, even those who think they are the best behaved people in the world. Not just to save from uncomfortable bathroom encounters.

Regardless, that is not an argument against boycotting any business that sanctions what God calls iniquity: "have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them." (Ephesians 5:11)

It's real simple ... grown men do not belong in the ladies room . It endangers women and children .

This is a battle that was totally ridiculous for Target. It was never about real transgender people using the ladies room. If a man is truly living as a woman it is not always obvious and we have all likely shared a restroom with them and not been aware they weren’t women.

When it was decided by some genius that anyone could use whichever bathroom they chose to use without question, that literally left the door open for child molesters, rapists, and other perverts to come and go as they pleased in bathrooms and other areas that were supposed to be separated by male/female.

Target is a place where most of their customers are shopping for a family. It was pretty stupid to tell parents if a man no matter the reason, wants in the restroom with your mother, wife, daughter you have no way to stop that. For them to decide to fight on that hill is pretty short sighted for them.

I think society today has a hard time accounting for spiritual damage. State sponsored ‘gay marriage’ has spiritually damaged society because much of society was conditioned to think marriage is defined and comes from the state. When the first two states had their marriage amendments overturned and ‘gay marriage’ imposed, do recall what the big story was on FR? It was about a reality show star who said he thought gay acts were gross and was suspended from his reality show while they weren’t even filming. Don’t worry, all the merch sold right before Christmas, he was reinstated and the show got record ratings when the new season premiered for the network that originally suspended him. There was probably 20 threads about this garbage for every one about those two states.

It’s much easier for our modern society to account for the threat of increased physical damage or even being made to feel uncomfortable by proximity. Things like glory holes, wide stances, hooking up, propositioning, are all things that men do in the men’s bathroom. The men who do them are gay. But at least normal men can usually handle them, being men too.

Some of the men who claim to be women are still attracted to women. I think those that still realize that these sick men aren’t lesbians are upset. Maybe a lot of these folks are kind of down for the gay marriage thing. Lesbians don’t prowl public parks at 3 in the morning for free anonymous guaranteed sex. Gay men do that. There would be hetero men doing it, but women aren’t into it.

Do you think the Bible needs to have a explicit statement, "Thou shalt have no mixed bathrooms/locker rooms," for that to be forbidden, when separation of genders is clearly taught, from clothing to sexual unions, and uncovering the nakedness of the opposite sex was restricted to marriage? And which is only defined as being btwn opposite genders?

You are hardly helping the lost here by attacking those who protest impenitent perversity. But as we all sin, and must repents and be born again by faith in the risen Lord Jesus, may all be convicted of sin, righteousness and judgment, and find room at the cross and be saved on Christ's account, by His sinless shed blood, to the glory of God.

Me. I’m a doubter.

I have severe doubts that anything negative will happen to Target.

1) This was not a new Target policy. The policy permitting transsexuals in Target bathrooms and changing rooms was years old. This latest public statement was, in fact, a restatement in response to questions that arose because of bathroom laws. If there was going to be a rash of rapes it would have happened years ago when the policy first changed.

No rapes = no lawsuits

2) Any boycott would need many millions more signatures collected much faster than this to make a global company like Target sit up and take notice.

3) The people most likely to sign this boycott are probably least likely to be in Target’s shopping demographic.

4) I don’t see a jury punishing an attempt to be inclusive with millions much less billions. You might want to wipe your chin.
