The year was 2012. Zero was running for reelection and the Repubs desperately needed a better candidate than they fielded in 2008 if they were going to regain the White House.
As usual, Freepers were posting articles and comments about the upcoming election, the candidates running for the Republican nomination, how to defeat Zero, etc. During the primary season of 2012 Free Republics owner enthusiastically campaigned against one of the candidates, Mitt Romney. If the only information that you had about Romney was what FR's owner posted you would have had to conclude that Romney was pure evil concentrated. However, when Romney was nominated to run against Zero, FR's owner reversed course and got behind the nominee.
I became disappointed in what I perceived as extreme hypocrisy from the head of the premier conservative forum on the internet and quietly left the site for several years.
With the 2016 campaign season being free of Zero and shaping up to be one of the more interesting campaigns of our maturing republic I found my password and logged back in hoping to engage in interesting, civil and conservative dialog. Everything looked the same but there was a different feel to the place. A lot of anger, a lot of fear and a lot of hatred of conservatives for conservatives.
I do not particularly like Mr. Trump and expressed my opinion on the subject. Of course that resulted in being attacked with reckless abandon by the Trump faithful. When I retaliated I quickly earned a couple of timeouts and limited posting privileges, in other words, second class membership, while those who attacked me continued posting their vicious slanders against anybody and everybody that wasn't on board the Trump Train. The double standard couldn't be more obvious.
Then, on 4/23/16, the owner of the site pledged total support to Mr. Trump believing that Trump is the only path to victory over the presumed democommie candidate, Hillary Clinton, regardless of the fact that Trump is not a conservative. Freepers who openly refused to pledge their support for Mr. Trump were quickly purged with Trump's exuberant peanut gallery fearlessly and gleefully shouting insults and catcalls for all non-Trump supporters to 'ride the lightning'.
Welcome to Trump Republic.
Opus over.
Cowboyway out.
You are clairvoyant!
you’re welcome to your opinion of course- Apparently I’m not though- Go away? Lol- you just proved my post-
Inside out.
Have you been to the Free Republic on Facebook Page? Cruz Cucks are some of the nastiest SOBs I’ve encountered. Some are as bad as the butt hurt Bolsheviks on any liberal page and it’s pathetic. So my question is why stick around? Do you honestly think you’ll be able to change the mind of a Trump supporter? Most of us have seen the light with Dominionist Ted, who used Christians to get their vote and then when he realized they were going for Trump his surrogates set out to say they weren’t a Christian if they voted for Trump. Then the lying and cheating pursisted.
From the beginning many of us saw through the Cruz fraud of the “outsider”
Candidate. He’s anything but! Cruz is a fraud and a globalist shill who began flip flopping a few weeks before his presidential announcement. Mr
h1b visa by 500% would finish off jobs for Americans. He wants to be the first president of the North American Union to help his big dollar donors.
My hope is that Ted will never be in politics again once the election is over.
Trying to label them as good or bad, or whether they are making a point or not, is beside the point.
Castigating the opuser is equally pointless.
The large number of recent opuses suggests something is happening on FR that an increasing number of members are uncomfortable with.
It's a time for self-reflection rather than another opportunity for a Two Minute Hate.
If you want a “pure”republican, you will lose the election. Enjoy Hilary for 8 years!
Vote your heart: lose the election. Again.
Youz guys are experts at losing elections.
It suggests the micro-minority of intolerant Cruzers are opusing out. Look at the daily polls: we're looking at 90 percent supporting Trump. You think anybody believes this BS coming out of Cruzers about how we're betraying Conservatism by not supporting the bread-faced mutant?
Wait. Hasn't Trump said Cruz was eligible many times? (As well as saying he was ineligible sometimes. I haven't heard Trump say he was ineligible in a long time. After the Iowa primary he suggested Cruz might be his VP, which I would assume means he was then saying he was eligible.
The same media said the same thing about Reagan. Not to mention Palin.
No conservative is a good candidate, now that the media found out how to destroy them. Maybe you should learn something from that.
Just stop posting. We don’t need an announcement. At least when Neil Warren did it yesterday—dude, that’s the founder of eHarmony.com. Knowing he’s bailing was important.
Ted Cruz could have won this race 5 times over. All that was required was some conservative class on his part. Instead he always took the low road.
You're stretching Two Minutes of Hate into Two Hours.
Bravo!
>>But the facts on the ground, and the people voting are showing something different.<<
Yes, the facts on the ground are that the media picked the GOP candidate and trashed all the conservatives. I don’t even like Cruz as a candidate, but he is a conservative. Trumo is to the left of Hillary..
You didn’t answer the question:
You think anybody believes this BS coming out of Cruzers about how we’re betraying Conservatism by not supporting the bread-faced mutant?
Their concerns are clearly BS. What can we do if they opus out over it?
>Yes, the facts on the ground are that the media picked the GOP candidate and trashed all the conservatives. I dont even like Cruz as a candidate, but he is a conservative. Trumo is to the left of Hillary..
Blaming everyone but Ted Cruz. Sad.
Anybody who wants to quit can certainly do so, but shouldn’t. My take is that Trump is the only candidate conceivably tough enough to withstand what is coming from the left and the media. And, I believe that his supporters are tough enough to help him win. Trump supporters instinctively realize that only dogged toughness and a “take no prisoners” attitude can possibly wrest control from the leftists. The vitriol on this site and others may be regrettable, but may be simply reflective of that knowledge.
The MSM shredded Romney and McCain, and they seemed shocked by it, as if being gallant and unfailingly polite would stem the attack. Cruz has unfortunately stated that he will not go personal against HRC. That means he will probably lose if nominated. He can’t leave the dirty work to Fiorina and expect it to have any effect.
In this election, we need fighters, not sunshine patriots who quit when things get a little rough. We must win in November, and that will require not just the candidate, but his supporters, to be willing to take the gloves off every day until November. Hopefully Cruz supporters will not walk away from the fight, but rather enthusiastically help beat Hillary. It will take all of us. I’m for Trump, but should Cruz prevail, I’ll do what I can to help him win. I hope that Cruz people shrug off the personal animosity and stay in the fight.
Well said, although I was never a Crux supporter.
BS OPUS
