ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) – A man has been charged in connection with a Postal Service mailbox that was destroyed by a pipe bomb in Arvada last week.
According to the arrest affidavit, John Henry Bowman, 45, admitted to blowing up a mailbox located in a parking lot on the 9500 block of Ralston Road with a pipe bomb.
Arvada police said just before 2:30 a.m. on April 21 several people called about a suspicious noise. Police responded but were unable to determine what the calls were about because they came from several different areas.
At 7 a.m. another person called police and alerted them to the exploded mailbox, which was in front of a building that formerly housed a Safeway grocery store.
Inspectors with the U.S. Postal Service and the ATF joined Arvada police in the investigation and were able to track down Bowman after reviewing police records of suspicious vehicles from the night of the explosion. They found an officer ran the plate on Bowman’s car, which was in the area around the time of the explosion.

Good news for him is that he can probably spend it in a federal prison instead of a state lockup. Although I expect Colorado prisons are much nicer than you find in parts of the deep south.
At least that will employ 10 FBI agents and postal inspectors for a while.

I can see this. And when did our government lose its sense of humor?
Good thing only junk mail was destroyed. Now if he had bombed an E-Mail server, serious disruption would occur.
I read the title, and immediately thought “...has to be Florida”.
“John Henry Bowman.” I thought this was about the drummer of Led Zeppelin! Now I want to hear Moby Dick.
He was sentenced to six years in prison and ordered to pay back $700,000 for destroying three historic buildings.

That guy is either a special kind of stupid, or his girlfriend is impressed by wannabe terrorist types-that said, I can see fining the fool for damages, and charging him with destroying property but-why call in the militia for a mailbox,even if it is considered postal service property? It is an inanimate object...
