Fame is lonely - even a little fame makes one very lonely.

I guess a lot of it is having the single-mindedness to concentrate on his golf game to the exclusion of all else. Last week, I saw someone who had a cute little dog (dachshund/Jack Russell mix) that loved to chase a ball. You could throw it incessantly, and it would keep retrieving it and bringing it back. He also had a big ball that he would roll to you in the house so that he could chase that one. He would roll the big ball with the top of his head. Cutest thing you've ever seen. I tried to pet the dog and interact with it, but it would have none of it. All it wanted to do was play with the ball. Single-mindedness in action.

I think to some extent it is the price one pays for excellence. That dog is the very best at what he does. Dolly Parton talked about it. I do think it helps to be a left-winger. Conservatives eat each other alive.
