Hope you enjoy. Wichita Lineman
music *ping*
My favorite of all the Glen Campbell hits.
One of the great love songs.
...And the Wichita lineman is still on the liiine..beep beep beep L0L
Loved it!
Glen Campbell”s greatest hits composed by the great Jimmy Webb.
Wichita Lineman is awesome beyond words.
1968 - We still had/were a country back then. Seems strange.
Back then we could say “we” and there could be no doubt who was being referred to.
The Glen Campbell station on Pandora is one of my favorites. Oh to go back to that time.
Thanks. Always love hearing Glenn sing this haunting love song.
Here’s my very favorite version.....maybe (one of) the first music video made?.....

As I see it, “Wichita Lineman” is a football song. The protagonist is a Wichita Indian who is an offensive lineman on a football team. He “drives the main road” by opening holes for his tailback while searching for an “overload,” when the defense brings a safety forward. He can hear his girl friend “through the whine,” or in other words, she’s cheering while the rest of the crowd is booing.
His team is apparently located in an area where it snows frequently, perhaps Flagstaff, Ariz., and they are preparing for a home game with a team from “down South,” perhaps Phoenix or Tuscon, that uses the “stretch,” a pass-oriented offense that would be ineffective in snowy conditions.
My favorite Glen Campbell/Jimmy Webb song...and his 6-string bass solo is instantly recognizable.
Fun facts....
Glen borrowed the 6-string bass from the Wrecking Crew’s Carol Kaye who was also in the studio at the time.
Before becoming a star in his own right, Glen was a VERY highly sought after studio musician who was in the famous Hal Blaine led “Wrecking Crew”. Google them and see the all stars that played in thar studio group.
Glen also played on most if not all of the Beach Boys (and Jan & Dean) hits traveled with the BB’s when Brian Wilson could no longer tour.
Well I didn’t know that...interesting.
By far the best song from a great career.
Thank you for posting this fine song and article - it helps define the best enduring love.
I’m of the mind the world would be a better less coarse place if this were taught to pre-teens, understood and guided everyone’s actions.
Very grateful for this community’s collective knowledge and wisdom.

one of my all time favorites
Interesting take but phone company lineman makes perfect sense. Snow and ice notorious for bringing down trees and phone lines with them.
