If youre a regular shopper on Amazon and want the shopping benefits of Prime, it makes more sense to go with the full-year plan instead of the month-to-month option. Yes, youve got to pay $99 all at once for that membership, but that ends up significantly less expensive than the $131.88 youd spend over the course of the year.
Depending on what you buy, and how quickly you need it, you may want to consider ditching Prime altogether. Amazon recently made it more difficult for non-Prime members to qualify for free shipping, raising the minimum order to qualify for free shipping on most (non-book) purchases to $49. Book purchases only need to hit the $25 mark to qualify.
So if youre regularly making purchases that pass the free-shipping threshold and dont mind waiting a few extra days for delivery, then maybe the money youre spending Prime could be put to better use elsewhere.

Thanks...I’m about to believe the best choice for me is just to go back to a regular antenna and forgo all the extras.
I am cheap, cheap, cheap.;)
FWIW I’m paying the same rate for cable channels, broadband, and home phone as I was in 2009.
Whenever I get the yearly bill with a price increase, I just tell them I’m switching to ATT U-Verse. (Now my neighbors that have U-Verse have a lot of technical difficulties due to crummy local infrastructure, but I don’t mention that to the cable co).
Tell that to the passengers of flight 72(?) over Egypt.

I do a good amount of shopping on Amazon all year round, but especially during Christmas and the membership more than pays for itself.
I also recently got into watching a TV show on FX The Americans but I want to binge watch all the previous seasons episodes which I can watch for free with my Prime membership, before I watch this years season finale.

If you're cheaper than me I'll send you 2 bits. (You pay postage.)
If you can't afford "high" speed internet -it costs me $59/mo- plus a streaming service (Netflix is best by far, $~10/mo) get an antenna. If you are in a metropolitan area you will receive many digital channels. If you get a usb digital tuner for your computer, you can view live tv or record programs for later viewing, and skip commercials. They're cheap and work well.

Like you, I argue with these folks once a year (phone and satellite tv carrier). They seem to find a reason to bump rates at least $5 per month for whatever reason. So it’s not a fast raise in price...but a slow one.
I’m in a rural area. But I appreciate the suggestion of a usb digital tuner. I’ll look into it. The thing I’ll miss most about Dish is the DVR.
We have both, Amazon and Netflix, and another member here got me to get the Roku so now I can watch em on the big TV.
I like em both. Amazon has more recent titles and Netflix has some interesting content that is their own.
I can’t say one is better than the other, I’m glad to have ‘em both.
While they are local, I have 6 great nieces - an 8-year old, 4 7-year olds and a 5-year old and thats what I do - have their parents give me links to items on Amazon for Christmas and birthdays from their wish lists (and 5 of them have birthdays within 3 weeks of each other!) and if clothing items, the parents give me their sizes.
The other thing I like is the selection. For instance, last year for Christmas I got all 6 of the girls boots not Uggs, actually nicer boots, very cute and for a better price. But while all were by the same manufacturer and similar in style and price, I picked out 6 different colors, their favorite colors, similar but slightly different styles, but I also had to get them in 5 different sizes. Truthfully, even at a big shoe store, even a DSW, I very much doubt I could have found them all, all the different colors and sizes I needed, at least not without driving around to several stores if even then. I did similar with the outfits and necklaces I bought them last year for Christmas along with the boots all similar but all different and different sizes. And believe me, girls even at their age are competitive and will notice if one gets something perceived to be more than the others got so I try to make sure I even it out.
In some cases, Ive sent the parents my ideas for a gift - a link to an item on Amazon and was glad I did in advance. I thought one of my great nieces would love and Ant Farm mom and dad well not so much! LOL!
I also like reading the reviews before I purchase. Some bad reviews are so ridiculous as to be ignored and some so glowing as to be suspicious so I go for the ones in-between. I only had to return one outfit for not being the right size but it was very easy to do and I got the correct size very quickly.
For the older great niece (in college) and the older great nephew (in HS and just turned 18) I get them Amazon gift cards. The gift cards are delivered via email, I print them out at home and put them in a card holder. The older great niece loves them as she can find many used books that she needs for school and as to the great nephew, I have no idea what a 17 or 18-year-old guy wants so a gift card lets him purchase what he really wants.
I used to like running around at Christmas going to several mall and stores but I dont have the patience for it anymore; the parking lots, trying to find a check out especially in a department store anymore, rude shoppers, trying to find what Im looking for... With on-line shopping, especially on Amazon - click, click, click from the comfort of my home and Im done! It typically takes me more time to wrap the gifts than it does for me to shop for them.
If you use the video and music part, maybe it is worth the money. Most things with the free two-day shipping have added something into the price of the item to cover shipping, so it is not really free.
“Video streaming service is now stand-alone for $8.99 a month so now you can just get streaming video without having to sign onto the rest of Prime.”
That’s $108.00/year vs. $99/yr for all of Prime.
I buy a large amount of nutritional supplements, and make use of their subscribe and save deals. About the lowest prices available, and no shipping charges. And with 5 subscriptions in one month, 15% discount.

True,I had forgotten all about that one.:-)
.
Took me a minute or two to figure it out, but this looks like a great resource. Thanks!
For Prime, the streaming video is worth signing up.
If you only want to watch streaming videos, you can do for $8.99 a month.
