Do we not count Heidi’s paycheck as part of their base? Didn’t Cruz file a joint return?

OMG! Ted Cruz’s wife is a rich person. We all hate the rich - except if they are Donald Trump. He’s one of us.

Old news. Huckabee hacked him for it a long time ago.

Cruz's response:

In an interview with CBN News this week, Cruz admitted that he and his family have fallen short on tithing. "I will readily admit that I have not been as faithful in this aspect of my walk as I should have been," Cruz said in response to recent reports that his income tax records indicate that he has only given one percent to charity from 2006 to 2010. "That article focuses on 10 years. We don't have the ability to go back and change what occurred 10 years ago when Heidi and I were newly married and we'd just started a family. But at the end of the day, being a Christian is not about holding yourself out as righteous," Cruz asserted. "It's about beginning with the understanding that we are flawed sinners and we are saved not by deeds but by Christ's redemption. I am grateful that God is a patient and forgiving God and this area, as in many areas of my life I am working to do a better job walking in my faith."

Christian Post: Ted Cruz Slammed as Phony Christian for Not Tithing -By Samuel Smith , CP Reporter January 28, 2016|12:04 pm

(emphasis mine)
,

I wasn't any good at tithing when I was newly married and building a home and family either.

“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.[a]Matt.6:1-4
We aren’t supposed to judge what others give. Ever. This verse makes it clear that God alone is to judge what a Christian gives. Not us.

Oh no, this battle is getting very confusing. Think I'll wear a blue top and gray pants. Wait, that's not a good idea ...now I'm a target from both sides.

My intended point: tithing/charitable giving viewed many different ways by true Christians. But, if someone is going to present themselves (as Cruz has done from day one) as THE Christian candidate, there are certain consistencies we would expect to see. Certainly, charitible giving would be one of those things.

At this point, think I'll put the shovel down and get back to serious Saturday chores. God bless.

So it’s OK to judge Cruz based on rumor. But by golly don’t say a word about those spreading the rumors. That’s your message right?

...."I was taught that tithing is an old testament law only."....

Not true. You are expected to tithe even now, but that's not the point. The point is, why would you give and brag about it on your 1040? Your right hand should not know what your left hand is doing. I know many people in my church that don't record their giving. I'm one of them. It's nobody's business what I give to God. Why would anybody even care what I give? I don't need the tax deduction, so why post it? Keeping your giving secret is a Biblical principle as old as the Widow's mite.

What we have here is Trumpsters embarrassed that Trump rarely even goes to church and doesn't study his Bible. Trump hasn't even made his taxes available. I'm sure when they come out, there will be millions given to one charity or another. Does God care if you gave a million to the NYC Center for the arts? Or how about, The Clinton Foundation? That's not the church. All of it will just appear on a line on his 1040 and that's what the news will report.

Another thing,...I could be a total confessing atheist and give 50% of my income to the Temple of Baal and it would be a tax deduction on my 1040. Does that somehow make me a "good person"? I'm sure it will come out that the Clinton's give hefty sums to their charity, The Clinton Foundation, to bolster their retirement. Does that make them good people?

I can assure you Cruz is more "Christian" than Trump has ever been. I live in Texas, he's my Senator, and I have followed his career since his Solicitor General days. He's a good man and he's not a liar.

I know all that. So we ALL tithe (except the 47% who make no money and pay no taxes). I’m asking “to whom do we tithe?” The government, organized churches, charities(good luck with that)or the neighbor next door?

If you claim a ‘charitable contribution’ on your taxes for governmental consideration, it isn’t very ‘charitable’.....Oh, horseshit.

That is why I will give Cruz benefit of the doubt. He may choose not to use. Now I understand Cankles even used the donation of Bill’s old underwear.

Well poor Stewart or not we usually give a lot without reporting. God knows what we do and that is sufficient. But I will ponder the thought.

The Tithe in the Old Testament was to the Government as they had a theocracy. The money was to be used for God’s work. Feeding the poor, clothing the poor, paying the Priests, and providing for justice, defense etc.

It was the equivalent of a flat tax to the Theocracy. Now we pay 50% of our income to the Democrat God and the secular theocracy. If we have anything left at the end of feeding our families and paying rent then we can give to God (the real one, not the false one) as God gives us pleasure.

Further, as Jesus said, we are not to let anyone know how much or to whom we give so as not to bring glory to ourselves. It is to be done in secret and as such, it is nobody’s business except God’s.

I think threads like this are counter productive. Instead of looking for who gave to God, maybe we should be looking at who gave to groups like Planned Parenthood, or the High Priests of Government like Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Hilary Clinton. Those contributions are, by law, public record and tell us exactly where a man’s heart is.

A few days ago, my wife and I were discussing Cruz. He per ports to be a man of God, loves Jesus, etc. Then we see his constant, incessant lying, back stabbing and name calling. I asked my wife who was raised a devout Catholic if Cruz would go to heaven or hell.

What I never liked about giving is that in the Eastern Orthodox church I grew up in, you make a “pledge” and they give you envelopes with your “number” on it which they use to identify you with. I think it should be a personal matter.

Here's what annoys me about the whole thing.Ted's father is a minister,so Ted has been exposed to the teaching of the Bible his entire life-both in and out of church.Apparently the tithing part didn't sink in.He's been a senator for just a few years,I have to wonder how much of the constitution he really believes in.
