I don't know how any of these big stores stay competitive.

Where I live, there are 3 WalMarts within 7 miles from me and a Menards next door to one of them. 2 Home Depots within 3 miles, one Lowe's less than a mile, two major malls (Lakeside and Partridge Creek) within 2 miles away and all sorts of other merchants such a Target, Sam's Club and Costco within 3 miles.......

Not surprised to see the one in Houma, Louisiana close.

I’ve often wondered where Sears would be today if they’d continued their Big Book catalog business. If they had, they could have been one of the first large retailers to move right onto the internet with a large customer base already in place.

Googling I find that they just ended it in 1993, only a few years before the internet really took off. Very bad timing. Thought it was longer ago than that.

Used to prefer KMart to WalMart years ago before Sears bought them. Their Basic Editions clothes were cheap and decent quality and they sold them in big & tall sizes. Great for wearing around the house.
