Jim Berkland, a former US Geological Survey scientist, who once famously predicted the Loma Prieta quake, said mega quakes usually strike at a new moon or full moon because of the gravitation effect on the Earth and the next full moon is on FRIDAY.
The maverick, now retired, scientist spoke out after eight powerful earthquakes struck across south Asia and the pacific in the past 80 hours, claiming hundreds of lives in Japan and Ecuador.
Mr Berkland predicted on October 13, 1989, an earthquake of magnitude 3.5 to 6.0 would strike San Francisco within the next week.
Four days later on October 17 a magnitude 6.9 quake hit Loma Prieta in northern California.
He now says 20 of the worlds last 25 mega quakes have happened during new or full moons.

Actually, more like 12 and 7/19 full moons in a year and a similar number of new moons, for a total of almost 25 opportunities. New moons have even stronger tidal effects than full moons, and apogee new moons even more, and equinoctial even more. We had an historically close apogee full moon near the vernal equinox about a year ago. < crickets>
You are freaking hilarious. You must be popular at parties cowboy. Needed a laugh and that image of you throwing pennies at aliens carrying anal probes almost had me on the floor.
And here I thought I had jock itch.
Didn’t California pass a law banning earthquakes?
The Inland Empire will become beach front property.
Back in 1992, someone drew to an inside straight and filled it. Keep drawing, and eventually it will happen.
This is way too stupid. In 1989 I worked in Los Gatos, just several miles as the crow flies from Loma Prieta. We had a major foreshock on August 4. It’s no guarantee, but I read in Wikipedia that USGS was concerned about this leading to a major quake, and had deployed additional sensors in the area. I don’t recall if there were any, but if people had been characterizing it as being a harbinger of a major quake, i.e., that one might be in the offing, that wouldn’t have surprised anyone. Full moon was on October 14, three days prior to the big quake. So, if there is a correlation, what the hell is it?
Well it sure makes sense! The full moon is much bigger than a half-moon or even a sliver moon, so of course it has more gravity and a bigger effect on the Earth.
Yeh just logical for that full moon to be bigger. Your are brilliant.
Well bring 1982 and earlier pennies and not the zinc filled ones. Just to be safe.
At the full or new moons? Why, because the weight of the shadow changes?
Not buying it.
Cancel those lasik surgery appointments, folks!
"Get reaaaady to rummmmmble!" Thanks PROCON. In his entire career, he was right once, by accident. I suspect his track record is just as impressive as all the other seismologists and other scientists who've tried to predict quakes.

A trans equatorial extension of the northern hemisphere polar coronal hole is now facing Earth. This coronal hole is now sending an enhanced solar wind stream towards Earth which will likely cause enhanced geomagnetic conditions in about two days from now.
Hmmm...Veddy intedestink.
Exactly! :)
Oh, I LOVE Frankie! He gives Wisconsin people their money’s worth!
