Jim Berkland, a former US Geological Survey scientist, who once famously predicted the Loma Prieta quake, said mega quakes usually strike at a new moon or full moon because of the gravitation effect on the Earth and the next full moon is on FRIDAY.
The maverick, now retired, scientist spoke out after eight powerful earthquakes struck across south Asia and the pacific in the past 80 hours, claiming hundreds of lives in Japan and Ecuador.
Mr Berkland predicted on October 13, 1989, an earthquake of magnitude 3.5 to 6.0 would strike San Francisco within the next week.
Four days later on October 17 a magnitude 6.9 quake hit Loma Prieta in northern California.
He now says 20 of the worlds last 25 mega quakes have happened during new or full moons.

See? Like that! LOL!
If Yellowstone goes off, I’ll send video....or, since the North Rim is eighty miles from our kitchen window, MAYBE one still photo.
As long as the cable feed holds together, anyway.....
Just a dumbass redneck, but here I thought that the Full Moon was due to the relative postioning of the Sun, Earth and Moon i.e. sunlight reflection, NOT how close the moon was to earth. Reflected light increases gravity??

No, no. The moon shrinks as the big mouse in the sky eats it up and then expands when the sun cages the mouse.
There is also a very good chance of shadow persons and little gray aliens probing your nether regions by Friday.

Yay!
Thank you, but please, stay safe.
If Yellowstone does go...we got big problems.
“Buckle Up, Dorothy, ‘cause Kansas is going bye bye.”
"Scientist warns MEGA EARTHQUAKE threatening millions will hit USA as early as FRIDAY""This is the kind of article they run when theyve got extra time on their hands."
There's much more to it than that.
He's ripping off a significant Jewish date and observance without giving the slightest hint.
"as early as Friday" is when Passover week starts.
He has a history of doing this.
Here's the quake/quote you mention:
"Mr Berkland predicted on October 13, 1989, an earthquake of magnitude 3.5 to 6.0 would strike San Francisco within the next week."
The 13th and the following week exactly map to another major Jewish observance, Sukkot week - and two other major observances.
He knows exactly what he's doing, AND WHY. That's also why we don't see these predictions every full/new moon.
Loma Prieta happened on Sukkot.
The great 1906 San FreakSicko earthquake happened 8 hours after Passover ended.
Very recently there's been an uptick in earthquake activity...that and Passover make it a safe bet.
Thank YOU and I promise to stay just as safe as I can.
Frankie is awesome!
But what about Passover!!!????
Well, at least the dollar collapse will wait until after this.
For that I’ll have to send you my email address!
As we say here in the South, Hold my beer and watch this.
plate tectonics theory is 5 decades plus old
It was the dollar collapse thread that directed me here:)
109 posts before Passover was mentioned.
“plate tectonics theory is 5 decades plus old”
I meant to suggest along those lines. I worked in Petroleum engineering in 1971 when the Saugus earthquake hit SoCal.
One of my bosses was a Geologist with an MS, and my other boss was a reservoir engineer with an MS.
Took Geology as science elective around the same time. Plate tectonics was relatively new at that time.
:-)
Yep.
I did some looking since and came up with this:
Largest Earthquakes in the World Since 1900
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/world/10_largest_world.php
Just looking at Passover and Purim...52 weeks in the year and 30% of the top 17 earthquakes land on or within 1 week of those observances...and the two Passover hits land *ON* Passover.
they are holding a lot of earthquake drills in Manila recently.
It helps keep our mind off of the danger of floods, typhoons and Dengue fever...
