I read another vanity post, so please forgive me for cluttering up FR with my own. But I would like to give my two cents on why nothing really matters in this primary.
The root problem is the republicans do nothing to stop the fundamental transformation of the electorate that favors the democratic party. The Dems are aggressively expanding their pool of likely voters. And for the last few decades, up to the present day, the republicans say next to nothing about it.
Now the way things are, how can you change things the way Reagan did? How can you get broad support say for a tax cut when such a large segment not only does not pay, but receives significant benefits from their fellow citizens? Selling them on the idea of liberty and economic growth hasnt been competing well against the opposition's promises of more free stuff.
Young white children are no longer a majority. White middle class women are having 1.6 children per. Now I am only bringing up that to illustrate the America of yesterday is gone. Trump will do nothing to change the equation. He may make the transformation happen more slowly, but that is it. In fact, Trump may stigmatize the Latino vote against the republican party in a way that it is now with Blacks. Im not saying Cruz would do any better. Because what is needed is a viable strategy to change entrenched thoughts and attitudes about the proper role of government and the individual citizen.
In fact, the Democrats are in full control here. Their agenda is what is being advanced in pop culture and in our schools. I don't see a future for conservatism unless there is a paradigm shift in thoughts and attitudes. The momentum for change as I can see it, is all leftward.
You know what? I think you are right. It is better. Why? Because the balance of power is gone, gone, gone...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventeenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution
“Prior to the Constitution, a federal body was one where states effectively formed nothing more than permanent treaties, with citizens retaining their loyalty to their original state. However, under the Constitution, the states were subordinated to a central government; the election of senators by the states reassured Anti-federalists that there would be some protection against the swallowing up of states and their powers by the federal government, providing a check on the power of the federal government.”
“The Senate was part of a formal bicameralism, with the members of the Senate and House responsible to completely distinct constituencies; this helped defeat the problem of the federal government being subject to “special interests”.”
Now they can be bought by future president wannabees.
Could it be that a lot of folks in District 15 opted to not vote - or that it's so heavily Democrat that they voted between Sanders/Clinton but not for the Republicans?
Funny how those who seen to care not a whit about Cruz SUCKING UP delegates w/o votes are so concerned about Trump WINNING delegates via votes We don't need no stinking "The People" in this election....).
District 15 is New York City - heavily Democratic.
District 1 is Long Island - nominally Republican.
Awarding an equal number of delegates per Congressional District has become a popular method of selecting delegates among state parties.
I think it’s fairly inconsequential on determining the nominee.
The question is, does it help to build the party where it is weak in areas such as New York City?
It did get Ted Cruz to campaign in NYC - district 15, in fact. Had turnout been as low in 2016 as it was in 2012, it might have won him a delegate.
Yep - the guy I replied to doesn't really care about all that - he's just looking for a way to decide that NY was unfair to his guy.
It’s time for those of us who are serious to get right with the Lord and Trust in Him 100%.
The future here is ugly. A future with Him (for Eternity) is priceless! Matthew 13:44
God Bless!
Amen!
It’s well past time for us to get serious with the Lord and Trust in Him 100%.
Those that don’t or won’t will suffer.
Is our primary process fair? Look at the precints in New York.....
District 15
Trump 636 3 delegates won
Cruz 251
Kasich 135

District 15 is Black and Hispanic thus very low number of Registered Republicans voting on primary day. Plus in order to vote you had to have registered Republican (or Democrat)six months ago
It should be proportional. Simple and fair. 51 percent is not equal to 100 percent.
