No, Trump Isn’t Actually Better than Hillary
National Review Online ^ | March 29, 2016 | David French

Those of us who’ve pledged that we will never, ever vote for Donald Trump always get the same response: “You’d put Hillary Clinton in the Oval Office instead?” Clinton’s name is spoken like an epithet, as if it’s unthinkable that any conservative would take any single action that could facilitate her election. I will not, under any circumstances, vote for Clinton, but I also do not believe that Trump would make a better president. Not because Clinton isn’t as bad as you think, but because Trump is worse than you imagine.

Both will lead to scenes like that.

Indeed, Hillary OR whoever the GOPe selects as their handpuppet, it will lead to scenes just like that.

Well, just for starters, Trump is not a criminal

If he were, we would know all about it

Republican candidates are not allowed to be criminals, while democrat candidates are. It’s practically a prerequisite.

The point isn't to convince the writer to publicly acknowledge they were wrong. The point is to make the argument publicly so that readers and others who may be persuadable get to read an intelligent response and perhaps question an article they might otherwise accept. You might be better off trying to correct misperceptions, or at least defend the guy in a non-strident way.

why not try to convince them why they are wrong?

WFB, the founder of National Review, was a leading proponent of reasoned debate and collected the leading conservative luminaries to argue for the conservative cause and argue out key points of controversy (e.g. was Lincoln right as a proponent of a moral order in the face of the abomination of slavery, or was he wrong in trampling the constitutional principal of states rights).

NR has all the tools and folks at its disposal to conduct a rational debate on the subject. If they were able to be convinced they would list reasons pro and con and debate the conclusion.

Instead we get the kind of impassioned drivel that we read going back and forth on twitter.

NR has betrayed its hallowed heritage.

That is as plain as ever...I do not understand why some people who come in FR cannot see this.

Well, if you’re going to view everyone who isn’t already in the tank for Trump as stupid, you will lose the election.

Notice too the extreme amount of vitriol and hate the establishment conservative media has thrown at Trump supporters. Yeah, anyone who gets out of line with the establishment must be punished. That includes the rank and file voters because they dared to defy their authority.

Yes, he is. Even if you buy the meme that Trump is just as radical as Hillary, the media will at least serve as a constant check and balance to restrain his abuses of power rather than being a cheerleader for unrestrained power as they would do for Hillary.

Trump is a bull in a china shop. Only it will be lives smashed and not small pieces of baked clay.

He will lead to war after alienating our remaining allies. Hillary would sell us out the highest bidder.

Either of them would lead to scenes you tried to attribute to Cruz.

This Cruz backer thinks otherwise. No way is Trump like Hillary. She will stack the Supreme Court so heavily to the left that no conservative ideal will ever be able to be put into law for decades and liberalism will take over. Trump probably won’t. For that reason alone, I will support Trump in November should he win the 1237 delegates need to get the nomination.

So called conservative thought leaders...

Takeaways from this primary season so far:

1. We've learned they're not as conservative as they'd like us to believe.

2. They've learned we don't consider them our leaders.

It must be difficult for these people to realize they don't hold the treasured place in our hearts they must have imagined.

I'm astounded at how stupid they are. At some point, you'd think they might stop and wonder, "Hey, guys? Is it possible the WE are the problem? Not the voters?"

Can you name one (media personality or private individual) who was transformed by being maligned, mocked, bullied?

They might walk away from the battle, but that’s not the best option for America either, is it?
