I stopped by the lake on my way home from work yesterday for a little mental health break. Watching the activity of birds, turtles and other critters going about their business as they have for eons melts the work-a-day stress. All is well with the world. The bigger picture continues to unfold. My little problems are placed in their proper perspective; now for the weekend!
ENJOY!!
Glossy Ibis - Check out the colors in those feathers!
Sandhill crane checks her eggs before settling in for the night.
Whited winged dove. Male I think.

Really nice shots! Where do you host your photos?
To: FamiliarFace
When I want to post shots here on FreeRepublic, I first post them to Facebook and use the “Only Me” setting (unless they are shots that I have already posted on Facebook for friends to see).

I’m in a highly developed area too, but hasn’t stopped armadillos from setting up housekeeping in a den under my patio.

Thanks, that’s a cool idea. I hadn’t thought about doing that.

So are the Sandhills still near you or have they started migrating?
To: FamiliarFace
They are here year round. We have some pass through the area in early spring (that’s Feb here), but many are permanent residents.

Thanks for the ping. Beautiful captures. Enjoying the nesting Sandhill shots you’ve posted over the last couple weeks.

Tacticalogic, I’ve got mockingbirds nesting in a cedar at the entrance to our garaged. Poor Maggie the Dog, she has to be
v-e-r-y careful in that part of the yard. When the eggs hatch, even we (humans) can get divebombed!

Son and I saw a bald eagle attack a flock of ducks that were in a farm pond off the highway. One did not get up in the air. bald eagle dove for it and we then were clear. Unable to see the dinner catch.
very nice to see for a old man and a young adult to see and talk about how it relates to our current situation .
