As things stand, Donald Trump is the presumptive GOP nominee. Thats awful news, and depressing to contemplate. But terrible possibilities dont become less terrible if we refuse to contemplate them. Rather, they become more likely.
If the two factions which make up the overwhelming majority of Republican voters could be unified, it might be enough to stop Trump.
What would the deal look like? A RubioCruz ticket. Cruz wont work at the top of the ticket for the simple reason that too many GOP quislings fear Cruz more than Trump. But a unity ticket a la ReaganBush in 1980 in the form of Los Hermanos Cubanos might just do the trick. There are real costs to such a deal (not least the fact that there are better general-election running mates for Rubio).

That would be the dem Dream Team...the dems could take them both out with one eligibility lawsuit...
The problem with that is that Obama is and was not a Natural Born citizen of the U.S. as required by the Constitution either. Do you really think they would want to bring up that again?
obama is bogus, we all know that...but he was the right color and therefore, the protected class. He was elected due to his skin color..nothing else.
I agree, it really an unbelievable article.
But I still believe a Trump/Cruz ticket would smash the GOPe and the DNC.
And they could easily get around all of the questions that would be raised about their attacks on one another.
Hehehe.
The two of them simply hold a press conference where they announce that their strategy the entire time was meant to lead to their Trump/Cruz ticket if it worked out.
That all of the name calling and attacks were a political gambit which, in essence, did a rope a dope on the other candidates, the MSM< and the GOPe.
So let me see if I have this straight. All Trump's concerns about the Constitution and all his claims that Trump was ineligible was all a ploy to get Cruz on the ticket with him? You really think that will fly?

Saying that your opponent is ineligible for the presidency and should drop out because of that goes a little the normal political mud-slinging. Either Trump believed it or he didn't. And if he says he never did then one has to wonder what other parts of his campaign are lies as well.
NR - Jealous of the Size of Trumps um ah Hands?-)
But Donald already flipped on that one.
In the first debate he went on the record saying that he had his lawyers look at it and found no problem,.
Remember?
Oh yes...they could get away with it.
Reagan picked George H.W. Bush for his VP after some really nasty statements he had made about Reagan...and they went on to win by a landslide...twice.
Note...I am not saying that this definitely will happen. My statement was simply that I would like to see it.
You may be right. By now most people know better than to believe anything Trump says.
Reagan picked George H.W. Bush for his VP after some really nasty statements he had made about Reagan...and they went on to win by a landslide...twice.
I don't remember either Bush or Reagan saying that the other was Constitutionally ineligible.
Regardless, it's all academic anyway because even if Trump asked Cruz to run with him I don't see Cruz saying yes. Personally I think it's going to be a Trump/Christie ticket.
Yeah, that's right. And this is the real face of the National Review.
