Hillary Clinton is now setting a campaign theme that should provide a golden opportunity for Republicans, if Republicans play their cards right.
"We don't need to make America great. America has never stopped being great," says Clinton.
But this doesn't reflect how most Americans now feel. The percentage saying they are satisfied with how things are going in the country has averaged less than 30 percent since 2007, according to Gallup.
The victor this November will be the candidate who can crystallize for voters what is wrong in America and how to fix it.
That Clinton wants to start out pretending there aren't big problems that have diverted our country from its exceptional potential means she can be defeated. But we need the right Republican to deliver this message.
Do I think Donald Trump, currently dominating the Republican field, can do this? No, I don't.
There are few surprises left about Hillary Clinton. We already know about her misuse of classified information as secretary of state. We know that she lied about what happened in the sacking of the American diplomatic compound in Libya and the murder of our ambassador. And we know how this so-called feminist hung on to her pathologically promiscuous and unfaithful husband because she needed his political coattails.
But we are just now learning about Trump. Why has it taken so long to pull back the curtain to expose the wizard of scam? In any case, it is starting, and we are seeing just the tip of the iceberg. We've learned that the man who says he'll build a wall to keep out Mexicans, and make Mexico pay for it, employs illegal workers on his projects. We know about the bait-and-switch scam that was Trump University, swindling tens of thousands from would-be students.
Should there be a Clinton-Trump race, it will be the first time, to my knowledge, that we'll have a presidential campaign where one candidate, Republican Trump, made large campaign contributions in the past both to his opponent, Democrat Clinton, and to her party.
Perhaps it is the formidable intimidation power of Trump and his machine that has kept the press and his opponents at bay for so long.
Perhaps the liberal press intentionally has kept its powder dry, savoring the prospect of a Clinton-Trump face-off. The Clinton campaign's research apparatus won't hold back. One can only imagine the tsunami of dirt about Trump and his business dealings that will be unleashed once they get started.
But the most powerful damage will be done when Americans, who really do understand that America is a great country that has lost its way, learn how little Donald Trump cares about the values and principles that do make our country great and exceptional. We might start with his recent hesitation to condemn and dissociate from David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan. Or his threat to sue journalists and others who disagree with him.
As we mourn the loss of the great conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, it looms large that Scalia was in the conservative minority opposition in the 5-4 Supreme Court 2005 decision on the case of Kelo v. City of New London. The court decided government can confiscate private property and turn it over to private developers.
Scalia said only two other Supreme Court decisions departed so wildly from the words of the Constitution: the Dred Scott decision, which declared African-Americans essentially sub-human and ineligible for American citizenship; and Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion in all 50 states.
Yet Donald Trump said he agrees "100 percent" with the Kelo decision, aligning himself with the liberals on the Court and against Scalia.
Americans do want to make our country great again. But if Republicans don't nominate a candidate who represents what that means, we may be looking at another left-wing Clinton White House.
I just wish they could learn to get along with other human beings. It wouldn’t be so bad if they’d just argue on the merits and be honest, but they won’t.
If I want to bet I go to Vegas. I want to make America Great Again so I vote for Trump.
Stop drinking the Global Power Master kool-aid.
If the cards fall right, both parties will have a candidate in court by summer...
The more people see what the eGOP is really like by you posting townhall articles the more it helps Trump, so thanks!
Make America Grate Again
This is the most dishonest, unclear campaign of my lifetime.
I am going to have to sit back and really ponder this, because I’m not really sure which way it’s heading.
I’m positive I don’t trust the media. Period. I cannot count on a single thing they say. It all is gamed in one way or another.
I cannot count on the republican party. They have sold me down the river for going on 3 decades now.
I do not think anything we are seeing is as it is being made to appear. I would ask you all to join me in prayer and in fasting that this becomes clear. I know. “We see through a glass darkly.”
But, also it says, “Amos 3:7 (NIV) Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.”
Cruz is not “Our Last Hope”
Trump is not “Our Last Hope”
Our “Only Hope” in in putting our Trust and Faith in God.
At this point I do not believe any politician is going to accomplish anything unless America’s people turn to God.
I agree.
There is only one Messiah and His name is not Ted or Don.
All of these men are playing an obfuscation game.
God knows men’s hearts. We just need to wait on the Lord.
Proverbs 21:1
Yep. It's all smoke and mirrors. Seven-plus years of Obama has well softened us up for such corrupt maneuvers....
I'm praying with you, dear brother in Christ. In the end, it's all in God's hands. And if the worst happens, I will say, with my whole heart: Maranatha, Lord Jesus!
p.s.: Satan -- the Father of Lies -- is having a field day, these days....
This is the year, the culmination of the co-opting of WORDS by the Republicans, much as the left has long known how to co-opt and redefine words and control the dialog by controlling the language.
SINCE WHEN was THIS not REAL CONSERVATISM: Make America great, build the military so strong that no one will attack it, stop drugs pouring over the border, stop illegals pouring over our borders and sucking our welfare systems dry, don't let the enemy (muslims) IN like a trojan horse, don't fund their resettlement here, cut the budget, cut the deficit, eliminate waste, fraud and duplication and redundancy, and TAKE CARE OF OUR VETERANS!
THAT is "conservative". ALL OUR LIVES that is CONSERVATIVE.
But...But....we are told NOW by Cruz, Rubio, the RNC, that we are phony conservatives. And that REAL conservatives believe the following:
The Cruzs and the GOPe and the globalists tell us that "real conservative" means "free trade agreements" like TPP, which screw the US to the brink of existence; promote the North American Union; open and uncontrolled borders and immigration; multiculturalism, like resettling muslim Syrians and Somalians by the hundreds of thousands in flyover country. Run trade deficits in the hundreds of billions and growing each year---approved by REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED CONGRESS, giving the LEFT everything on their wildest wish list. Export US jobs to other countries and allow them to ship their products back her with zero tariffs. Accept massive tariffs or complete prohibitions to get our goods into other countries while opening our borders to freely allow other countries to sell their products here with zero tariffs.
If you do not support THESE things, you are not a "real conservative." TRUMP and TRUMP supporters are phony conservatives because we do not support the end of US sovereignty, nationalism and patriotism.
The political class and globalists have twisted it so that Cruz-family globalism (500,000 more H1B highly skilled visas; massive increases in H2 visas for lettuce pickers; taking bribes from the banks who were GIVEN trillions of taxpayer money in 2008; remove all caps on work visas for China, Mexico and India, allowing them to take the remaining US STEM jobs until crony capitalists can finish exporting the jobs entirely.
I have thought of a way to make all this "clear." For me anyway. But that doesn't mean my model is necessarily true. Here's goes.
Bernie Sanders has declared that what's going on with this election is nothing less than a "political revolution." What he has in mind is a socialistic revolution, that will drive the final nail into the coffin of the unfair capitalist system that is bringing America down. While I think he's wrong about the socialism part, he may be well be right about the "political revolution" part.
Using the original American revolution as my model, we have the Patriots and the Loyalists. The Loyalists believe that there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the system that cannot be fixed from within the system.
The Patriots believe the system itself is irredeemably corrupt and there is no way for liberty-loving people to work with it, because the system itself is rigged to strip the Patriots of their God-given liberties. The power of the "King" can only be defended and grow by sacrificing the Patriots.
The Patriots know this, in their bones. The Loyalists do not.
Count among the present-day Loyalists: Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, John Kasich, and Mitt Romney. They aggrandize their own personal power by aligning with the King and his Court (suppliant courtiers that derive their livelihoods from association with the King).
Count among the present-day Patriots: Donald Trump, the blue-collar worker, and most of the American middle class.
The King, of course, is the GOP-e and its funding sources, the lobbyists. This is the professional political class that thrives by sacrificing Patriots, stuffing them into the insatiable maw of its corruption and lust for power and money.
To me, this is the political revolution. And if the Patriots don't win it, then there will eventually be a real revolution, of the blood-and-guts-and-guns type.
The status quo cannot be maintained; the center cannot hold: There is no center anymore.
JMHO FWIW
I pray God will help us liberty-loving Americans who love Him, in Whom we place our faith and trust.
I could not agree more, betty boop!
Sister Betty, the patriots and loyalists analogy is on target. When we combine it with Noonan’s protected and unprotected, we have a quadrilateral that goes:
Patriot protected:
Patriot unprotected
Loyalist protected
Loyalist unprotected
There were similar types in the Revolution
Patriot Protected: The Washington, Jefferson group of established landowners of means who nonetheless were still part of the upper crust of that society. This is the logical place to put Donald Trump. His wealth has him in a protected position, but he is an American through and through.
Patriot Unprotected: During the Revolution, these would have been the people who fought the revolution, whose families supported, and whose substance was not great, but whose weapons, blood, and effort were the tipping point in that long slog to freedom. This is us. We are the foot soldiers, the middle classes, the lower classes.
Loyalist Protected: These were either the Tories who left or the landed who helped fight the war on the side of the British. Examples would be Arnold and Tarleton. These were gentry. Their motivation was protection of their status and position, AND a new position elsewhere if this didn’t quite work out for them.
Loyalist Unprotected: During the revolution there were a sizeable number of adherents to the crown who simply didn’t participate. These lower and middle class folk stood for the king, and they actually were the great majority. I understand that support for the Revolution really was at only about 25% of the population. These were the folk who simply kept their mouths shut and endured what the crown threw at them. Most also did not fight for the crown, either. I assume they just wanted to live their lives and be left alone. That is why they parallel so easily what we call low info or uninvolved Americans. They are shocked — simply shocked — that genitals would be a joke in what is to be a proper political campaign. However, each of them probably makes such references daily. “He’s a real nowhere man, living in his nowhere land, making all his nowhere plans for nobody.” But they are nice neighbors and they keep their grass cut.
Thank you ever so much for writing!
Thanks, dear trisham!
The Club for growth an open borders lobby is running ads for Cruz.
It is?
Daniel Morgan or Francis Marion were the type of leaders with whom I would compare Trump. Tenacious and versatile, they were capable as both battlefield or guerilla warriors. While their level of privilege would not seem that much today, any advantage went a long way in that era.
