Sperm has been created in a lab for the first time, raising the prospect of women never needing men again.
The breakthrough was made by Chinese IVF researchers experimenting with mice, The Sun reports.
They took stem cells from rodent embryos and used chemicals to transform them into primitive sperm. It was then used to fertilise eggs that produced baby mice. The healthy offspring went on to have kids of their own.
Jiahao Sha, of Nanjing Medical University, said the technique "holds tremendous promise".
He said: " If proven to be safe and effective in humans, our platform could potentially generate fully functional sperm for artificial insemination or IVF." Experts here hailed it a "mammoth" achievement.

Isn’t this still something of a chicken-or-egg scenario in as much as a fetus is first required from which to gather stem cells? Doesn’t seem like the solution they need without the ability to use adult stem cells.
