An Open Letter To My CEO (somebody call a whaaambulance)!
medium ^ | 2/19/2016 | Talia Jane

Posted on 02/24/2016 6:59:31 AM PST by Wyrd bið ful aræd

I left college, having majored in English literature, with a dream to work in media.

-snip-

I also desperately needed to leave where I was living. I could get into the details of why, but to sum up: I wanted to die every single day of my life and it took me several years to realize it was because of the environment I was in.

-snip-

I like the weather up here.

-snip-

I put a bunch of debt on a shiny new credit card to afford the move.

-snip-

Will you pay my phone bill for me? I just got a text from T-Mobile telling me my bill is due. I got paid yesterday ($733.24, bi-weekly) but I have to save as much of that as possible to pay my rent ($1245) for my apartment that's 30 miles away from work because it was the cheapest place I could find that had access to the train, which costs me $5.65 one way to get to work. That's $11.30 a day, by the way. I make $8.15 an hour after taxes. I also have to pay my gas and electric bill. Last month it was $120. According to the infograph on PG&E's website, that cost was because I used my heater. I've since stopped using my heater. Have you ever slept fully clothed under several blankets just so you don't get a cold and have to miss work? Have you ever drank a liter of water before going to bed so you could fall asleep without waking up a few hours later with stomach pains because the last time you ate was at work? I woke up today with stomach pains. I made myself a bowl of rice.

I've discerned the basic problem:

Because 80 percent of my income goes to paying my rent.

It looks like a she from the picture. But you are correct, he may be a she by choice, not birth.

Who takes a Job paying 1450 a month in a part of the country where cheap rent is 1200 a month?

You find another job, not complain to the CEO in public.

Seriously, you have a college education, and degree and you took a job that basically had nothing to do with your education that is an entry level position in a company.. you complain the corporate policy is you have to work there for a year before you can change positions in the company.... so why did you take that position in the first place?

There is no lack of job openings in the Bay Area... float your resume and get a better job.... or get some room mates and cut your expenses.

I agree you are in a financial pickle, but its one you put yourself in and you need to get yourself out of. Put on your big girl panties and welcome to adulthood.

$1450 / 160 =

9 bucks an hour.

The Amazon warehouse here in the Indiana is advertising 11.

She’s working in the phone support, which is literally the no education, starter position, she claims a degree I think in English, so why she chose to take such a job is beyond me... I doubt she’s making $9 an hour.. because 1450 is her take home, she’s probably around $12 a hour or more before taxes, insurance and other stuff.. but still she has to take responsibility, not expect the CEO to bail her out.

Get a higher paying Job and in the bay area, that should not be hard to do... or find some room mates and cut your expenses.

Maybe it is just me, but every time I didn’t make enough money at my full time job, I worked a part time job.

The cool thing about working 60 hours a week? No time to spend money you probably shouldn’t be spending anyway.

I guess that she was too busy learning to "express herself" in her Creative Writing classes to master the perfect tense of "to drink."

Well, as I said, I can’t imagine taking a $12 an hour job in the Bay Area, I lived there, its ungodly expensive... That said, she signed up for the trip.... so she has 2 choices, earn more money or cut expenses.

If she truly has the education she claims, then she should be able to find a job paying more. There is no shortage of jobs in the bay area... .it seems to me she had this grandeous plan, and is upset that her plan isn’t what she thought...

She just needs to be responsible for herself, and not expect someone else to fix it for her.... she can work through it if she wants to... but crying in the bathtub and complaining about it, it doesn’t change anything.

That was great. I still have tears in my eyes from the laughter. You’d have to have a heart of stone not to chortle gleefully at this crotch-fruit’s bad life decisions. Thanks for the best read I’m likely to have this week.

I left college, having majored in English literature, with a dream to work in media. It was either that or go to law school. Or become a teacher. But I didn’t want to become a cliche or drown in student loans, see. ...

So, she chose a major that offered very few job/career opportunities in fields that she did not want to pursue. Then she made terrible life choices that included taking a minimum wage job requiring an expensive relocation to a geographic region with high housing, transportation, and subsistence costs. But her plight is her employer's fault because they don't overpay for her unskilled labor?

Of course - it's San Francisco!

Sounds like normal adult life is too much for this poor fella. Guess it's time to move back to his parents' house.

Does not sound like a "fella" to me!

“Does not sound like a “fella” to me!’

I only read the first couple of sentences and didn’t really care what the gender was.

I completely agree with what you say.

I’m just disgusted with the number of people who think anything more than 40 hours a week is slavery.

As you say, find a job that pays more, or, as I’ve pointed out, find a second job. Maybe both?

Just another one who should have looked into trade school and avoided high debt. That leads to a career rather than just a job.

Starving on the Prosciutto-and-Brie Poverty Diet

Eagle-eyed Internet users archived Instagram and Twitter images of Talia Jane indulging in a spa day with a fashionable facial mask made of Lush-brand coffee grounds; showing off her well-stocked kitchen, where she baked sumptuous cupcakes, “prosciutto-brie-cilantro-garlic biscuits,” “brie-stuffed meatballs topped with brie and rosemary sprigs,” “roast chuck marinated in herbs,” “a s— ton of Swedish potatoes au gratin,” and “mini pumpkin pies.”

In one of her richer moments (pun intended), Jane brags about having Bulleit Kentucky Bourbon delivered to her office through a smartphone app. “I’ve been meaning to buy whiskey,” she burbles, but I always forget until after I’m phone and my pants are off” (presumably when she’s under all her blankets shivering from cold and deprivation). “(A)lcohol delivery services aren’t available where I live because I’m in the suburbs,” so “I had alcohol delivery to my job. (O)ddly enough, no one asked about it.”
