The divide between Freeper's in the Trump vs. Cruz battle is more heated than I recall any other divide of Freerepublic. Just about every thread immediately devolves to a nasty fight that carries from one thread to another.
I think we need to be careful with each other because both camps need each other after the primary. Can we just agree to disagree and move on? We have more in common with each other than not.
Forgot to mention in #140: I’ve learned over the years to keep my mouth shut as to who I support in the primaries. For me, it just isn’t worth it to get into the chaos here anymore...

Well said. The stridence and derisiveness is breathtaking. And, while both sides engage in such silliness, those who dislike Donald Trump are the worst offenders, IMHO.
People will combine eloquent and erudite legitimate criticism with the most blatant and irresponsible smears.
But there's no divorce coming. That's over-analyzing things...
We went through all of this nonsense with Rudy Giuliani back in 2008.
On your first point, I'm with you. On the second point, some people have mommy problems.
Don't tell me again that you voted for Romney and you voted for McCain and you will never do that kind of thing again. I don't want to hear it!
Yes. And similarly: Trump... Cruz if necessary.
Most members of this forum, IMHO, can and should be content with that.
The irresponsible vitriol should stop. Let's let the chips fall where they may, because I don't think that rabid attacks are going to change any minds...
I would prefer Cruz over any of the other GOP contenders , but let's make no mistake about it ... he's as much an insider as anyone in D.C.
“he’s as much an insider as anyone in D.C.”
We simply disagree on that point.
He is hated by the left and right DC insiders. He knows the system but he isn’t part of the system, otherwise he would not be hated by the left and right insiders.
IMHO.
Just to be a contrarian I can say opposite. The ardent Cruzers who have gone after Trump since June 16, 2015 want for Trump supporters and all those who favor him to roll over and start disliking the man because he is defending himself, uses tough language and takes on opponents. They want us to believe Cruz walks on water and can do no wrong.
Cruz won’t have a chance in the general. His bravado has worn thin. He is running a campaign full of mistakes. Cruz had made tons of mistakes in the past year. He is also a flip flopper like Romney and he is murky sometimes on things. Cruz comes with uncertainty. He turned off a bunch of people on the fence between him and Trump.
I thought the Romney Santorum primary was pretty nasty. I know I got hit a lot on my support for Santorum from Romney fans. Same thing is happening to me with supporting Trump from the Cruz fans. We survived in 2008, we certainly will survive in 2016. Most of the best FREEPERS are Trump fans so I am good. A few Cruz fans surprise me but I still respect them even though it gets heated. There is no way this debate will go on after nomination.
Good question about the polls.
I never name called anyone, your attempt to twist my words shows exactly the kind of silliness that most of this tit for tat arguing is about. Pointing out the nature of politics is not pretty and those that think it is are naive is not name calling it’s a fundamental truth of the endeavor.
No one ever said you had to like any behavior but if you run around thinking politics is played by some rules of order or a gentile class the only person you are kidding is yourself. Politics has never been a noble cause, it’s an ugly nasty necessity of life. You will never have a Boy Scout rise to the top in politics because sooner or later a politician has to make a hard decision. That decision will likely require compromise even on the most fundamental parts of ones moral character.
For example England broke the enigma machine, Churchill knew there were going to be firebombings of several towns in England. He could evacuate the towns and thus let the Germans know they had cracked their codes or he could remain silent allow the deaths and hope that not letting the Germans know their codes were broken would bring about a faster end to the war.
Which did Churchill do? He kept quiet. Do you think Churchill’s moral fiber said innocents being killed was okay? I highly doubt it, but it was a decision he had to make. Does that make Churchill a monster? In the drive by mentality some have toward politics today they would say that makes him just as evil as Hitler. Which is of course nonsense.
You don’t have to like the fact that politics is an ugly ugly world, but you are beyond naive if you think it has ever been anything less or can be anything better. Perhaps you should go read Plato’s Republic to see that this isn’t new or unique but sadly a fundamental nature of it. Do I wish this were not true? Certainly, but pragmatic politicking is never going to smell like roses.
I’m Catholic, its an Annulment or nothing.
I wonder if the Pope will weigh in on this? We obviously need a Bridge or at least a Highway to Heaven.
Keen eye, semi.
I thought about that and my inclination was to put Trump on top since I slightly favor him over Cruz (vs the rest of the candidates) and I decided to list alphabetically.
Good mojo to you.
Thanks bergmeid. (see post above)
The reason is that the other side is full of D-Bags and commits.
I sue for peace.
Heh. I see what you did right there.
The time to worry about whether someone is “conservative” or not is tilting at windmills.
The country is in dire enough shape that the Constitution no longer matters.
We’re in a fight for survival.
I have no confidence in any politician, but I’ll vote for any GOP nominee rather than any commie Democrat. If the GOP nominates a yellow dog, it would be better than Bernie or Hillary.
