It's appearing obvious that Trump will win South Carolina, and logic would tend to indicate that that makes him the odds-on favorite to win the Republican nomination (baring any GOPe dirty tricks at the convention).
While I will gladly vote for Trump over Clinton or Sanders, I'm still disheartened.
Ever since the last day of Reagan's administration, America has been in need of conservative leadership.
GHW Bush's squishiness gave us Clinton.
GW Bush barely won election. I'm glad he was in office after 9/11 instead of Gore, but he loaded us up with tons of debt and a lot of government growth. He also gave us Obama.
McCain was a squish and got his ass handed to him in Obama's first term.
Romney was a squish and got his ass handed to him in Obama's second term. Even Obama was surprised he won that one after the destruction he wrought in his first term.
Now, our chance has come.
On the democrat side, we have a nasty, entitled, corrupt, untrustworthy, unlikable, old hag and a grungy, mooching, old, socialist running for office.
On the republican side, we have a solidly conservative, well spoken, highly informed candidate that isn't afraid to stand up to the GOPe and fight for conservative causes. It's what we ALL have been waiting for.
We've ALL thought that we could win the presidency and right the wrongs of the past few decades of creeping socialism if we would just put a true conservative up as our nominee in the general.
Well, this is our chance. But, we're about to piss it away.
I think I understand the appeal of Trump. People are pissed and Trump has tapped into that. But this is a time for thinking, not feeling. Trump is a demagogue. People want to be on "Team Trump" because he's loud, proud, and unapologetic. But, Trump is also practicing a scorched Earth campaign of character assassination against Cruz in order to win the nomination for himself, and his whipped up supporters are dog-piling on anyone who dares to point out the emperor's lack of clothes.
Two years from now, when we discover that all of the red flags and warnings being blared by Trump's past positions and statements really are an accurate representation of Trump, and we find that "campaign" Trump was just that, we will kick ourselves when we realize that we had our chance, perhaps our last, to nominate the true conservative we had all been waiting for, and we screwed it up.
Turning a blind eye to Trump's liberal leanings just because he says the things we want to hear, and helps us express our dissatisfaction with the status-quo, doesn't make his leanings any less liberal.
We've said that electing a conservative could set us back on the right track.
We have, right now, a chance that we won't have again for a very, very long time. A chance to prove we were right.
But we're about to blow it.
. If Trump canât deliver weâll find someone else.
Bingo! He may be a bastard, but he’s out bastard. And if Trump doesn’t deliver, then he’s out too! It’s time for the voters to take charge rather than the uniparty.
Speaks volumes.
Thanks.
I hate to say it but when you think about it the Republicans Party represents only a tiny sliver of the electorate. The corporate cabal and the few conservative stupid enough to latch on the few bones they throw out on abortion and few other noble social causes. The thing is the Republicans talk a good game but DO NOTHING on the social front. For all intents and proposes the Republican party is the fascist party of government and corporations joining together to for political power. I call it like I see it.
If you go back to 2009 and ask me about Rubio, I would be very enthusiastic. In his heart, the right answers are there. But democrats would flay him. Between the issues of poor credit management, that little gang of 8 problem and as another Freeper called it his “memorizer bunny” moment, the commercials write themselves.
My vote is for Trump. He makes me very nervous sometimes because he’s not a trained politician who avoids stepping into steaming piles by instinct. He jumps in with both feet. But this cycle will not elect a traditional politician IMHO. But what the heck do I know. This is the craziest primary season in my memory.
Cruz is not just saying the right things, he's doing the right things. He has a record of doing the right things. He is un-contestably conservative.
Trump, on the other hand is now saying things that are diametrically opposed to what he's said AND DONE in the past.
If you dislike people that say the right things in speeches for political advantage...Trump is PRECISELY the wrong candidate for you.
“They don’t need to kill him. Just ignore him.”
the evilstream media have a history of censorship through silence. Don’t think it will work here.
Just my opinion, but if Rubio gets second both Cruz and Donald are done for. Rubio will get the delegates of Carson, Kasich and Bush. Eventually he will get Cruzes. Game over. If Donald were get 50% it would be different.
I have. I have also read world history.
If we don’t get back to a constitutional government fast we are doomed to fall in the same manner as many great republics of the past.
A populist who has seen what Obama did and how he did it?
Will he be Julius, Nero, or Caligula?
I've got an uncle who is a doctor. Can I cut you open and play with your innards?
I get it; you hate Ted Cruz.
Donald Trump is your personal Messiah and whoa to anyone who would blaspheme his name. You Trump cultists exhibit every foul error you smear on Cruz supporters.
Ted Cruz is an honorable but flawed, human man. He's not God. He's not a messiah nor a savior. He is the best bet to recover from Obama.
...and in conclusion, bite me.
>>>I have no sense of humor that I’m aware of<<<
You just proved you do. LOL
Talk about tone deaf. If that's the best you can come up with it's no wonder Cruz is tanking.
The last thing someone with sketchy citizenship should be doing is speaking Spanish.
This is politics-not geometry.
Amen
Proven false.
No, I’m almost certain the clip is from a recent segment of Rush’s show. I remember hearing it live, maybe a week ago.
You may be right about the Cruz campaign obtaining the clip from another source. Could be that Rush made the same, or similar statements, on another broadcast.
Either way, I find it odd, hearing Rush singing Ted’s praises in a campaign commercial.
Agreed. And Cruz has taken the low road ever since. Darned shame.
I liked the guy’s supposed principles...but he has never convinced me of his honesty.
Trump may say stuff that I cringe at....but I believe the man is brutally honest. Cruz is not. Nor is Rubio. They both come across as saying what they think is going to win them votes....aka what their ‘handlers’ have told them to say.
I hope Trump does win big. Time to shake up the establishment. I can’t stand these career, lying politicians.
Cruz had a shot at taking this...but he blew it with his dishonesty and tactics. Can’t stand the guy at this point.
We shall see how things pan out.
How can Cruz be considered a viable candidate when he can’t win in the GOP primaries? If he loses in SC and NV, he is longer the great conservative hope.
I am not part of the birther crowd. I consider Cruz a NBC because he was not naturalized. When he was born he was a citizen. We can argue all day about it, but I don’t see it coming out any other way.
I had a discussion with my lefty son earlier today about this. I told him that McCain and Romney lost because so many stayed home because these were not their ideal candidates. His comment was that if people stayed home and let the opposition run their country because they didn’t get the nomination they wanted, then conservatives are not very bright.
Unfortunately, that’s when I had to abandon the argument.
