Trump Is Not A Liberal or Conservative, Heâs A Pragmatist by Mychal Massie January 19, 2016
We recently enjoyed a belated holiday dinner with friends at the home of other friends. The dinner conversation was jocund, ranging from discussions about antique glass and china to theology and politics. At one point reference was made to Donald Trump being a conservative to which I responded that Trump is not a conservative.
I said that I neither view nor do I believe Trump views himself as a conservative. I stated it was my opinion that Trump is a pragmatist. He sees a problem and understands it must be fixed. He doesnât see the problem as liberal or conservative, he sees it only as a problem. That is a quality that should be admired and applauded, not condemned. But I get ahead of myself.
Viewing problems from a liberal perspective has resulted in the creation of more problems, more entitlement programs, more victims, more government, more political correctness, and more attacks on the working class in all economic strata.
Viewing things according to the so-called Republican conservative perspective has brought continued spending, globalism to the detriment of American interests and well being, denial of what the real problems are, weak, ineffective, milquetoast, leadership that amounts to Barney Fife Deputy Sheriff â appeasement oriented and afraid of its own shadow. In brief, it has brought liberal ideology with a pachyderm as a mascot juxtaposed to the ass of the Democrat Party.
Immigration isnât a Republican problem â it isnât a liberal problem â it is a problem that threatens the very fabric and infrastructure of America. It demands a pragmatic approach not an approach that is intended to appease one group or another.
The impending collapse of the economy isnât a liberal or conservative problem it is an American problem. That said, until it is viewed as a problem that demands a common sense approach to resolution, it will never be fixed because the Democrats and Republicans know only one way to fix things and the longevity of their impracticality has proven to have no lasting effect. Successful businessmen like Donald Trump find ways to make things work, they do not promise to accommodate.
Trump uniquely understands that Chinaâs manipulation of currency is not a Republican problem or a Democrat problem. It is a problem that threatens our financial stability and he understands the proper balance needed to fix it. Here again successful businessmen like Trump who have weathered the changing tides of economic reality understand what is necessary to make business work and they, unlike both sides of the political aisle, know that if something doesnât work you donât continue trying to make it work hoping that at some point it will.
As a pragmatist Donald Trump hasnât made wild pie-in-the-sky promises of a cell phone in every pocket, free college tuition, and a $15 hour minimum wage for working the drive-through a Carlâs Hamburgers.
I argue that America needs pragmatists because pragmatists see a problem and find ways to fix them. They do not see a problem and compound it by creating more problems.
You may not like Donald Trump but I suspect that the reason people do not like him is because: 1) he is antithetical to the âgood old boyâ method of brokering backroom deals that fatten the coffers of politicians; 2) they are unaccustomed to hearing a candidate speak who is unencumbered by the financial shackles of those who own them vis-a`-vis donations; 3) he is someone who is free of idiomatic political ideology; and 4) he is someone who understands that it takes more than hollow promises and political correctness to make America great again.
Listening to Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders talk about fixing America is like listening to two lunatics trying to âout crazyâ one another. Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio are owned lock, stock, and barrel by the bankers, corporations, and big dollar donors funding their campaigns. Bush can deny it but common sense tells anyone willing to face facts that people donât give tens of millions without expecting something in return.
We have had Democrats and Republican ideologues and what has it brought us? Are we better off today or worse off? Has it happened overnight or has it been a steady decline brought on by both parties?
I submit that a pragmatist might be just what America needs right now. And as I said earlier, a pragmatist sees a problem and understands that the solution to fix same is not about a party, but a willingness and boldness to get it done.
People are quick to confuse and despise confidence as arrogance, but that is common amongst those who have never accomplished anything in their lives and who have always played it safe not willing to risk failure.

I think most politicians now define “conservative” as “ideologue with deep pockets and low expectations”
Donald Trump Took $150,000 After 9/11 Because He Was A âSmall Businessâ Owner
I was for Trump, but I’m getting increasingly concerned by his lack of knowledge about any number of things. I heard an interview last week with him and he kept getting Cuba mixed up with Iran. Today I heard him say he was all for women in combat because “they are really good at it.” ???!!!
My biggest worry is that he thinks being smart is the same as being informed. With his decision-making style I think we would easily be headed in the wrong direction on any number of issues.
Yahoo! Finance reports Sen. Ted Cruz’s four super PACs received 57 percent of their money from financial-industry sources, but are essentially funded almost entirely by three wealthy donors:
Supporters of Cruz want a man who has constitutional principles. Supporters of Trump want a fixer. Following principles may or may not lead to fixing; following a fixer may or may not lead to principles. Caesar fixed Rome at the cost of the Republic; Sun yat-sen followed principles at the cost of China’s Republic. Perhaps it doesn’t matter what we choose at this point.
Yes, at psy-ops.
Lol, history repeating itself. Newt was just on Laura Ingraham’s show. He reminded how in 1979-80, the conservative Grand Poobahs supported Rep. Phil Crane because Ronald Reagan was not conservative enough.
Their successors are at it again.
I think he’s the best current option from either party on all of these
* immigration/security/military
* economy/jobs
* budget/debt/deficit
Those are my top priorities and don’t care what label you want to put on Trump or even what he believes on other topics. The president needs congress to get things done with these and most “conservative” issues. I think Trump can best negotiate with congress to make improvements on these issues and I’ll depend on congress to keep him in check on other issues.
This morning:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/02/18/fox-news-poll-trump-leads-in-south-carolina.html
âTrump captures 32 percent among South Carolina likely Republican primary voters. Ted Cruz gets 19 percent to Marco Rubioââ¬â¢s 15 percent. These are the only three candidates earning double-digit support.â
You don’t fix problems with government. It’s like trying to hammer nails with dynamite. Donald Trump may want to make America great; I’d settle for free.
I don’t know about the hair thing - he has what God gave him.
However, the more I watch this primary the more it appears that Trump is Al Czervik (Rodney Dangerfield) and the GOPe is Judge Smails (Ted Knight) from the movie Caddyshack.
When you can’t change what you observe you can at least smile about it.
Yes this is the best description yet, I am not a techie can someone keep this post alive throughout the day today!!! All should read it!!
Reason for donations one word BUSINESS!!!!

I do NOT expect Trump to know these things I expect him to surround himself with the absolute BEST people who know foreign affairs ect. Our founders expected everyday people to serve as leaders and then GO HOME!!! We have generals, wonderful finance people, business people who will advise Trump he is NOT expected to know it all, just pick the best and brightest which he is an expert at!!! He WILL do a GREAT job and it will be done under budget and ahead of schedule!!!
You folks can post this same list over and over WE have seen it now at least 300 times!!! Get a grip, this is how business is done as a developer you may not like it and neither does Trump!!! Greasing the palms of SLIMY politicians is what America is all about today, which IS WHY we are voting Trump!!!
I'm sure the Founding Fathers would be proud to see the "progress" Amercia has made to the point where "greasing the palms of slimy politicians" is considered laudatory.
And before you claim "I never said it was laudatory": if it's not "laudatory" to bribe politicians to get "business done" then it shouldn't be "WHY we are voting for Trump"
If such behavior is laudatory, in your opinion and that of others, then I rest my case in the sarcasm of the first paragraph I wrote above.
Riiiiiight! ..cause business always Trumps values & principles.
