Letter: The case for Kasich
Concord Monitor ^ | 2/7/2016 | Former Senator GORDON J. HUMPHREY

Posted on 02/17/2016 6:56:25 AM PST by EBH

We need a president who knows how to work cooperatively with independents, Republicans and Democrats in Congress. Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton had that ability. So does John Kasich.

As chair of the Budget Committee in Congress, John Kasich, with bipartisan support, literally balanced the federal budget four years running and repaid $560 billion of the national debt – nearly 10 percent. As governor of Ohio, again with bipartisan support, John Kasich balanced the state’s budget, converting an $8 billion deficit into a $2 billion surplus, cutting taxes $5 billion.

Ohio’s economy is roaring, with over 400,000 new private sector jobs, and wages rising faster than the national average.

Kasich actually brought jobs home from China and Mexico. With the surplus, he’s helped the mentally ill and the uninsured. And he’s fought heroin addiction among youth. During 18 years in Congress, Kasich served on the Armed Services Committee. He is a national security expert right now, requiring no on-the-job training. He has more such experience than all the other candidates combined. Governors make better presidents than senators.

Compare Gov. Reagan with Sen. Obama, as proof. Among the governors in the race, John Kasich has the best record by far. That is why former Sen. John E. Sununu, former Congressman Chuck Douglas, former Attorney General Tom Rath and I have endorsed him

I think Kasich/Rubio would easily win, but is that a win?

Kasich has no intention of enforcing immigration laws, building a border fence or doing anything to deport those who are here.

It’s a win for the twenty or thirty illegal immigrants who are here and the forty or sixty million more citizens from Latin America & the Caribbean who will follow them through chain immigration.

I think they might be a well tempered team?

But could they beat Hillary?
