FREMONT, Calif.--California firefighters rappelled down a steep ravine to rescue a days-old horse that was trapped for two days with a broken pelvis. The San Jose Mercury News reports the horse is less than a week old and is recovering after its ordeal.
The colt, dubbed Valentine because it was rescued on the holiday, was stranded in a pool of water when animal control officers and firefighters fished him out Sunday.
Valentine will be taken to the University California at Davis for surgery. The operation will cost about $10,000 and the Tri-City Animal Shelter is taking donations to cover the cost.
Police are investigating how the colt got down the ravine.
I wonder how this tiny fella got down in the ravine, and where his mama is. I suspect some no-good-niks had something to do with it. If so, I hope they rot in hell. I just wish I could afford a horse, because I really love horses.
Me too.
Cute little foal. Hang in there, little guy!
Nice story to hear !
I find new-born colts ("baby horses?!") as cute as the next fellow, but unless it was someone's pet, why go to that much effort?
Regards,
Because of the reward.
I suspect that things happens in the great out doors strange things happen to animals all the time.
A total waste of to time and recourses the animal should have been put down and left there.
My feelings exactly, and was going to post similar before I read your post.
No one has claimed ownership, and the taxpayers/donors have to pay a huge vet bill.
In a saner world, the poor critter would have just been put out of it’s misery, just like unwanted animals at a shelter. Only since this one was suffering, it would have been more merciful.
Because life is the most important possession a living creature has. Why give it up for nor reason at all.
nor = no
“A total waste of time and recourses the animal should have been put down and left there”
Seems to me it was good opportunity for the firefighters to hone their skills in a real “live” situation. Next time it most likely won’t be a horse. The Firefighters were going to be paid either way be it making a pot of chili back at the station or rescuing a horse. Donors are picking up the Vet bill. Were is the rub?
“Baby horse”? That’s a first...
yeah! LOL! That’s because libidiots do not know what a foal is.
Waste of money. Around here we have so many wild horses it is legal to feed them. They get into your trash if your neighbor hood does not have a wall around it. Really. They are everywhere. If you want one just come to NV with a rope.
Yeah horses are great but wild ones are just that, wild animals. Tens of thousands to save what announce to a pest? Silly. Would you spend that much to save an injured deer?
I guess that’s why some people like onions and some don’t. I have rescued many animals throughout my life. Some were domestic and some wild. I did not discriminate, because they are all G-d’s creatures.
