Yes.
FR has always been colorful, had its share of eccentrics and plenty of verbal dueling especially during primaries but its always been conservative.
This season it’s veered into Moonbat territory with the conspiracy theories, Christian bashing, defense of big government, etc.
If I’d just landed on FR today, I’d think it was a progressive web site based on much of the commentary.
Hang tough. There’s an Invasion of the Body Snatchers virus about. People whose conservatism had cracks and flaws were vulnerable to trumpfection. Our scientists are working (in the private sector, of course) to try to find a cure for this virus before it’s fatal to the body politic.
I remember back in 2008, a purge of members who defended Rudy Giuliani, in many cases, rightfully so, as some of the attacks were nothing but slander. I doubt there is much difference in most political views between Trump and Giuliani but a world of difference in temperament.
I'm afraid that a lot of people have surrendered to anger rather than rational thought. When was the last time you made a good decision when angry?
IMO, Donald Trump is our Jesse Ventura. Unfortunately, despite the obvious signs, many will not perceive his incompetence until he inflicts it on our country for four years. Like Ventura, Trump has all the earmarks of a disaster waiting to happen.
Here is my thinking.
The political center has been pushed so far left that now Hillary is considered a moderate.
Right now, at this moment in time, you have zero chance of getting any conservative elected President.
We have to pickup Blue States in-mass to even stand a chance.
IMHO, Trump is a step in the right direction.
He wants to create jobs for Americans and this is opposed by both parties.
He wants to seal the border from MuZ invasion.
Those two things might...just might keep us from dropping off the edge.
I think freepers are like the tens of thousands who turn out to trumps rallies. They want a winner for a change. First and foremost, they are against illegal immigration and they want America back before she slides to third world status. That is the big driver this election.
Reminds me of the blind faith of Obama supporters.
Ditto all of that...!
-— I thought the idea was to win them over to conservatism, not to abandon our beliefs just to get them to vote for our guy -—
Trump uber alles.
I don’t understand his appeal at all.
I think Trump served a purpose for this election cycle. Regardless of his past viewpoints, he got the right conversations started about immigration, veterans, jobs and government waste/stupidity. The concern I have with candidates from both wings of the uniparty are they all sound like tyrants that think they can bypass congress. Myself, I’m no more interested in having Donald Trump for a tyrant than I am Obeyme.
That said, I’d vote for Trump before I’d vote for Hellary. I tire of listening him tell me how smart he is, but he is certainly not a socialist.
Trumped the shark?
I don’t know what is going to happen to you because I don’t have the stomach to find out.
I just want to say that I agree with everything you said.
You may think you are alone but you are not.
I should stay and defend you but to protect my mental health I cannot deal with any more rabid Trump supporters today.

Short answer: Yes, it has. Very disappointing.
Lost me here. Trump has no political record. He has statements he's made at various times in his life that run the gamut of the political spectrum. But they are essentially meaningless and could be attributed to context or a deal that was going on at the time. Right now, today, he's offering conservative principles. That's the only political record he has. He's a clean slate and it comes down to whether you believer what's he's saying is true. I think it is based on the fact that he's written that you have to keep your promises when it comes to striking any big deal. I believe him.
Thinking I have stumbled in some black hole of Bizzaro World, I decided to spend most the night, after the debate yesterday, researching past posts and comments of many Freepers who support Trump. I must admit that I wasn’t too shocked to see that not all, but the vast majority, of his supporters have joined FR within the last 8 years. However I pretty much only searched the opinions of his most ardent supporters.
Did you note the owner has said good things about Trump?
A lot of the Trump supporters actually have been here a lot longer than 8 years (and frankly, 8 years is a pretty long time IMHO).
We all know this is an open forum, but I doubt most of us suspect a fellow Freeper would be viewing and categorizing our posting history. Seriously! It is something I would expect from the NSA, not a fellow Freeper! It is intrusive!
Though I am sure that my reply to you will now land me on some future search list of yours, you should know that I REALLY FIND THIS VERY CREEPY OF YOU, and I think you need to go find a hobby.
God bless you brother! I second all that you’ve so eloquently said. :)
Wow, I just read the first page of this thread, and noticed how immediately people jumped all over you, and started attacking Cruz, yet not once did you even mention him, or even refer to him in your initial post.
You simply stated your disbelief of how people can support a candidate that is truly not conservative, and how much different Free Republic is now, than past elections.
Just amazing that the Trump supporters, would automatically equate that to you being a supporter of Cruz or that Cruz is the reason for the things you said, when you implied neither.
For all I know, you support Rubio or even Kasich. Doubtful...but still...to not only assume who you support, start attacking you on that assumption, start attacking Cruz, on that assumption and not even address ANY of the issues you brought up....makes you wonder who we are dealing with here at FR, anymore.
Granted, there are a lot of really great FReepers. But there is quite a few, who aren’t very nice. And there’s no reason for it, IMO. If they want to support Trump, that’s fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But if someone disagrees with you, and you can’t discuss/debate why in a polite, civil manner, than move on. That’s what I do anyway. I mean, I know it’s easy to say all sorts of rude obnoxious things, when one is sitting behind a computer screen, anonymous, but I try very hard to think, what would I say, if this person were in front of me, in person? Can we disagree? Sure. Heck, my neighbor loves Trump. And we politely disagree and discuss it...but we don’t call each other names and hurl insults at the other.
What has FR become? /rant off
I came across your post and well done.
And yes, I have seen alot of things that in the past would have been rejected by conservatives but now either embraced or dismissed when it comes to Trump
