Sounds like battle lines are already being drawn up.

The liberals are saying we should move swiftly to confirm a new nominee appointed by Obama. They argue that the Supreme Court should not have a vacancy till the next president takes office in January 2017.

Conservatives are saying we can just wait until a new president takes office, and let that new president appoint someone. And Mitch McConnell is saying the Senate will not consider any Obama nominee for confirmation.

Stay tuned. will be a bumpy ride.

Time for a secret meeting between Donald and Ted. Ted slow-walks his campaign, throws his delegates to Donald at the convention to avoid a GOPe brokered convention, Donald nominates Ted to the Supreme Court. Game, set, match.

Well, as much as I detest Onambla, it is his prerogative to nominate someone.

I will bet is will be some sodomite, or worse yet, a muslim.

Frankly...I think one should be more respectful and put the politics in a drawer for a bit and show a little respect for the man and his family.

Cruz will choose to grandstand...me and my colleagues in the Senate will make sure...blah, blah, blah....

I agree completely this matter suddenly becomes the most important issue of this year outside of the election itself. It is absolutely critical, beyond crucial that the US Congress, Republican control, to stonewall any effort by the Obama regime to name their own justice while he is in office.no matter what anyone says or does they must be absolutely resolute. This is not anything that’d McConnell or Ryan should throw to the Democrats under any circumstances whatsoever. And if they try there should be zero tolerance for anyone who would allow Obama to appoint a Supreme Court justice

Exactly why should Obama wait and not appoint someone? Other than “we don’t want him to”? The Left clearly does want him to... so what is the legal justification?

Please. Ol’ Donny probably suggested his sister to Obama. (wish I could add a /sarc tag, but it’s too probable to joke about.)

Scalia’s passing has changed the course of the campaign. Will it be enough to move the polls against Trump? I doubt it but it should. Suddenly, Ted Cruz’s lack of Senate friends and willingness to go along looks very reassuring regarding the Supreme Court. On the other hand, Trump cutting deals, changing rapidly and getting things ‘done’ looks much less appealing.

I think Trump is the only one who might be able to stop the Media DeathStar in their drive to have 0Muslim install a far-Left crazed Commie on the Supreme Court.

The Media DeathStar will brush aside Ted Cruz and his objections like Michael Jordan driving the lane on a sixth-grade, 5 foot 6 defender.

We're going to see a light show from the Media DeathStar like we've NEVER seen.

This is the Holy Fracking Grail for them.

Indeed. If he gets to go first on that issue tonight, he should extract a pledge from Cruz and Rubio that they will do all within their power do delay any appointment until a new President is elected.

One freeper has already said Trump could end the race tonight by pledging to appoint Ted Cruz to the position.

At first impression one is impelled to say that Donald Trump is utterly irrelevant to this process but when one considers the scurrilous history of Donald Trump's dealmaking one can easily understand how he will broker a deal between McConnell and Obama by the terms of which McConnell agrees to an appointee who will rule against Cruz on natural birth citizenship.

McConnell will go for the deal because he, like Trump, is a dealmaker with the other side and he knows he will be able to cut deals with Trump but not with Cruz and Obama will go for the deal because he will get a leftist judge.

As much adulation as the sTrumpets give to Trump, he has no power in this situation; those candidates who do are the two senators that the sTrumpets abhor, detest, denigrate, lambaste, skewer, lie about, libel, etc. Oh the humanity.

Y’know, I am voting for Trump in the fall, but have a hard time jumping onto the “stall the nomination” bandwagon, as I am not a big fan of do-nothing government. For good or for ill, we have the government that the voters chose, and that includes the GOP COngress (the good) and the 0bummer WHite House (the ill). The GOP Senate can and should do its due diligence with whoever he nominates, but to just run out the clock is not a good use of my tax dollars.

Besides, it opens the true nightmare scenario, that is, what if...if if if...Hillary or Bernie wins? Either of them might put up freakin Obama himself!

Trust me, that won’t happen with Trump. Trump is basically a non partisan candidate and will not state his position. Since Cruz has already stated his preference of take no vote until the next president is elected, Trump will instinctively take the opposite. Trump isn’t interested in the finer points of policy, it’s just not his thing. He’s happy spouting slogans and when he gets in, he will have his people take care of the details. That is what he is used to.

Ya know Nino’s best friend on the court was Ginsberg. Not politically obviously. Just a friend. She has been extremely sick for many years. Talk of her retiring has been going on for years. If there was justice on this planet, she would have passed this mortal coil for a well deserved rest a long time ago.

Its like living a nightmare, I can’t believe Scalia is gone. Always had nothing but respect for this brilliant mind, he was by far the best. I of course have a lot of respect for Clarence Thomas but Scalia was always and will always be my favorite. My heart is breaking tonight

This is not the time. Respect the family and the man right now.

Next week is soon enough to discuss appointments.
