Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia reported dead

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, the San Antonio-Express News reported.

Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa, the paper reported.

According to a report, Scalia, an associate justice, arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.

The U.S. Marshal Service, the Presidio County sheriff and the FBI were involved in the investigation, the paper reported.

A federal official who asked not to be named told the paper there was no evidence of foul play and it appeared that Scalia died of natural causes.

Scalia, the longest serving justice on the Court, was nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1986 by President Ronald Reagan. He was the first Italian-American justice.

Gov. Greg Abbott released a statement confirming Scalia’s death and calling him a “man of God, a patriot, and an unwavering defender of the written Constitution and the Rule of Law.”

“He was the solid rock who turned away so many attempts to depart from and distort the Constitution,” the statement said. “His fierce loyalty to the Constitution set an unmatched example, not just for judges and lawyers, but for all Americans. We mourn his passing, and we pray that his successor on the Supreme Court will take his place as a champion for the written Constitution and the Rule of Law.”

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz called Scalia a “champion of our liberties and a stalwart defender of the Constitution.”

Hey, that's twice. You gonna knock it off? If you complain about other people politicking for Cruz off this new issue, then you are doing the same for somebody else.

Of course they're worried. They think anybody but Cruz will nominate Yurtle-the-Turtle-approved SCOTUS nominees, giving us a parade of Souters and Kennedys and O'Connors, swinging swingers or, in the case of Kennedy, a hand-tooled, multiply-concealed, stealthily closet-gay-trained, gay-friendly pro-Homonazi Justice.

The damage done by Souter and Kennedy has been incalculable.

I was writing a book about how obama would cause chaos to such a degree, then assassinate the republican president elect and buy the electoral college to appoint him another 4 years. it was titled decemeber 14 which is i think the day the electoral college votes.

Not me. I'll wait to see what the Texas Rangers have to say. He died in their jurisdiction, and they are totally professional.

If fedgov tries to interfere with autopsy or investigation, then I'll know what to think.

No cases will be decided until his replacement is decided, right? They may as well go home. Decisions come out in June, recess until October.

Absent AJ Scalia, I think the liberal justices might want to try to rush some votes through for 4-4 "wins" in some cases, 5-3 in others, with Roberts having his ass blackmailed off, esp. in gun control and immigration cases.

It's up to Roberts now to say how things will go forward with the docket, and you can bet he got his midnight call from the Voice last night.

OMG- I guess that means "Oh My God"... not sure what calling God into this discussion has do do with this. Sounds something like some 80's Frank Zappa video would say. Just out of place when discussing the lives over millions of unborn babies.

I know Bloomberg news asked Trump this. "Is there someone you have in mind (current or past) that you is kinda a model for you (to choose for a future supreme justice)?

Trump sidesteps the question and starts going on about how he was disappointed in Justice Roberts (once a FR favorite, especially the Catholic groups). You can probable find me not one of Robert fans on some old FR pages. Trump said he liked Robert's background and thought process. But Trump eventually settled on he was not a fan of Roberts because of his terrible decision on Obamacare.

Suddenly Trump jumps back on track with the question. He says he would nominate someone that was "very smart" and had a "great temperament". He refused to mention names, since it was inappropriate at this stage of the game".

When asked "What about your sister"... Trump replies.. "she is great"... "she is fantastic"... "I think she would be pronominal" ... "I THINK SHE WOULD BE ONE OF THE BEST"... " but I do have a sister who is very smart and a very good person".

It went beyond just being nice to a family member. Great even Fantastic would of sufficed to keep up niceties. But then he put her (with her last second pro-abortion views) up there with top tier candidates.

You blow it off if you want.

Here is the video of him saying everything I quoted. I will even suggest you starting at 15:45 to get right to the sections I quoted. Or you can watch the whole thing and see the part where he would not even offer up a quote from the Bible as one of his favorites.

P.S. Thanks for forcing me to rewatch the segment for quotes.. I had not noticed he said "She would be one of the best" before now. Makes for a good tagline.
