What was to become the story we know as Frankenstein, was written by Mary Wollstonecraft at a summer retreat on Lake Geneva. She and her betrothed Percy Shelley were the guests of Lord Byron whose personal physician was Dr. John Polidori. They On a challenge from Byron,they all endeavored to write a horror story. Polidori’s contribution was later published as, “The Vampyre,” which would become the first modern English vampire story.

And they say that wouldn't have happened if Mt. Tambora hadn't blown its top in 1815, causing the "Year Without A Summer" in 1816. The gang in Switzerland was miserable about the grim weather...

wow. What a fruitful weekend!

never read Frankenstein, but I gather the Boris Karloff character is not what they had in mind.

Perhaps more the (terribly cast) Robert DeNiro character was more i line?

and i’ve heard the book ends horrifically.
